His father was a pensioner of the war of 1812. Mr. Spear served in the late war from March, 1864, to July, 1865, in Company I, 31st Maine Volunteers. He married Rebecca, daughter of David and Sarah (Smith) Bassett, and granddaughter of David Bassett. Their children are: Flora E., Millard F., Philossa A., and S. Emeline.
