Norton Bassett, an old time resident of this place, is dead, aged 78
years. Mr. Bassett, when a young man, taught the Lowville village school, and
afterwards studied law with Hon. Charles A. Dayan. Later he studied medicine
with Dr. Seth Adams, and subsequently removed to Booth Bay, Wis., and engaged
in the drug business. A few years later he removed to Lewis county and
purchased a farm near Glendale, where the latter portion of his life was
passed. He leaves a wife, one son and one daughter.

Norton Bassett died Friday evening last at his home near Glendale,
after a prolonged illness, aged nearly 78 years. When a young man Mr. Bassett
taught the Lowville village school, and afterwards studied law with Hon.
Charles A. Dayan. He also studied medicine with Dr. Seth Adams, and
subsequently went to Green Bay, Wis., and engaged in the drug business for a
few years. Upon his return to Lewis county he took up his residence on the
farm near Glendale, where the latter portion of his life was passed. His wife
and two children, Charles M. and Emma Bassett, survive him. Funeral services
were held from his late residence Monday.
