Francis C. “Junior” Bassett, 1950-2009
OGLESBY – Francis C. “Junior” Bassett, 58, of rural Oglesby, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at his home after a battle with cancer.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Granville with the Rev. Patrick Demeulemeester officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Tonica. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica.
Mr. Bassett was born July 15, 1950, in Spring Valley, to Francis C. and Evelyn (Crass) Bassett, Sr. He married Mary Ellen Siensa Jan. 26, 1979. Mr. Bassett was a farmer and worked as a steel worker at Arcelor Mittal in Hennipen for 39 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Tonica Cemetery Board, NRA, INRA, La Salle County Farm Bureau and the Steel Workers’ Union.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his mother, Evelyn Bassett of rural Oglesby; one daughter, Mindy Bassett of Cedar Point; two sons, Rich (Angie) Rundle of Cedar Point and Jeff Bassett of rural Oglesby; three grandchildren; and on sister, LeAnn (Scott) Lambert of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Revels, Chad and Scott Lambert, George Ploch, George Margis, Joe Pakula and Dale and Dave Cororan.
