Byron L. "Bud" Bassett
Services for Byron L. "Bud" Basset, 75, of Snyder, NE will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Rockland Baptist Church in Rockland under the direction of Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. Burial will follow at Rockland City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 60 to 9 p.m. at the church. Mr. Bassett died January 17, 2008 at his home. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and worked as a carpenter and then trained as a butcher. He was employed by Greers Grocery Store until 1963 when he moved to Bolivar, Tx and worked in commercial fishing. Survivors: wife, Zula "Sue" Bassett; daughters, Debra Dickson, Miracle Bassett; Cheryl Bailey, Renee Juda, Carol Bassett; sister, Ila Hillgren; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grancchildren.

Scott Leroy Bassett
CODEN - Scott Leroy Bassett, a brick mason, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 49. Bassett was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guary and a native of Mobile. Survivors include his wife, Marie Neal of Coden; his father, Byron "Bud" L. Bassett and his stepmother, Sue Bassett, both of Nebraska; two sons, Leeland Bassett and Antonio Bassett, both of Coden; and five sisters, Cheryl Bailey and Renee Juda, both of Texas, Miracle Jean Bassett of Irvington and Carol Herre and Debra Lynn Bassett, both of Nebraska. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oddfellows Hall in Bayou La Batre. The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the hall. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery. Gilmer's Funeral Home on Zeigler Boulevard is handling the arrangements.
