Margaret Mary Bassett McClymonds (Picture included)
Known as "Peggy" to her family and close friends. Beloved wife of Robert Clark McClymonds. Margaret left this earth on September 28, 2007, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born January 22, 1931 in New York City. She lived in Port Washington, Long Island, NY, until the age of 3 1/2, when her father moved their family to Nevada. Margaret grew up on cattle ranches in Washoe Valley, Carson Valley, Lovelock and Reno, NV. One of the greatest joys of her childhood was riding her white mustang, Nellie, across the sage-covered hills and plains of Nevada. Margaret attended the Franktown School in Washoe Valley, the Minden Grammar School in Carson Valley, the junior high school in Lovelock, and Reno High School. Margaret graduated from the University of Nevada in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics/Education. She joined the Phi Beta Phi Sorority in 1949, and was a member all the rest of her life. Margaret taught Home Economics at Wells High School in Wells, NV, and Special Education Home Economics in the Sacramento City Schools. Margaret also homesteaded in Rupert, Idaho with her husband from 1954-1956. For many years Margaret was a librarian at Carmichael Elementary School and a Trajan and Coyle Avenue Elementary Schools in the San Juan Unified School District. She was the Treasurer for the Sacramento Area Library Organizaion for over 11 years. Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William Bassett and Ruby Ellen Fletcher Bassett Harvey, and by her brothers, Glen G. Bassett, Brig. Gen. W.D. Bassett, USMC, and Captain Dale C. Bassett, U.S. Army Medical Corp. Margaret is succeeded by her cherished husband of 54 years, Robert Clark McClymonds, of Carmichael, CA; by her four devoted children, Mary McClymonds Hargrove of Millington, TN, SUsan E. McClymonds of Pasadena, CA, Robert C. McClymonds II of Portola, CA, and William Bassett McClymonds of Yuba City, CA; and by her adoring grandchildren, Timothy and Daniel McClymonds Martinez of Pasadena, CA, William Hirsch of Millington, TN, and Jon and Bailey Margaret McClymonds of Yuba City, CA. Margaret is also succeeded by her dear sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Knight of Washoe Valley, NV, and by her nephews and nieces. A service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Ocotber 4, 2007 at the Lind Brothers Mortuary at 4221 Manzanita Avenue, Carmichael. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make a donation in Margaret's name to the Sutter Resource Library, 2800 L Street, 6th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95816.
