      Ida Mae Bassett, 92, of West Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Healthcare. Ida Mae was born on August 22, 1921 in Moline, IL to the late George A. and Marie A. (Lewis) Whitmore. Ida Mae married Donald A. Bassett on December 28, 1940 in Davenport, IA, and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1988. She worked for Bryan Manufacturing for 25 years before retiring. Ida Mae always enjoyed helping others, house projects, gardening, traveling, and volunteering. She always liked testing new kitchenware and recipes. Ida Mae adored being with her grandchildren.

      Surviving are two children, Donna (husband: John) Rundell of Castle Rock, CO., and Joan Campbell of Lafayette. Ida Mae is also preceded in death by two sons, Herbert Bassett, Donald Bassett, Jr. (Guy), two sisters, and two brothers.

      Also surviving are one sister, Jeannie McCormick of Fullerton, CA, sister-in-law Sherry Whitmore of Moline, IL, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

      Herbert W. (Big Jake) Jacobs, 63, of 520 ½ 15th St., Moline, was dead on arrival at Moline Public Hospital at 4:40 yesterday afternoon. Death was due to a coronary occlusion, according to Coroner Leslie Banning.
      Services will be at 3 tomorrow afternoon in Esterdahl Chapel with Dr. Walter A. Tillbert, pastor of Trinity Luther Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 4 this afternoon.
      Mr. Jacobs was born March 21, 1893, in Streator, and was resident of Moline the last 45 years. During World War I he was employed by the former R & V Mfg. Co. in East Moline. At the time of his death he was employed as night dispatcher for Hart Cab Co.
      On April 30, 104, he married Marie Lewis in Dubuque. He was a member of the Moline Eagles for more than 35 years and was a member of the Moline Turners for many years.
      Surviving are the widow; five stepchildren, Donald Whitemore, Moline, Mrs. Ida Mae Bassett, Monticello, Ind., Mrs. Betty Marie Hobert, Knoxville, Tenn; Miss Norma Jean Whitmore, Oklahoma City, Okla., and George Arthur Whitemore, Moline, and 10 step-grandchildren.
