| 52512 | Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Massachusetts, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 Laura Jean Bassett Toomey Whiting, Age 60 WORCESTER - October 11, 1952 - July 19, 2013 It is with great sadness that I leave you, on July 19, 2013. Although my cancer is incompatible with life, I am not prepared or ready to go. I have tried to live every moment I have been given on this earth, and so appreciate the "extra moments" I have somehow been given. There is still so much I want to do. I want to grow old with my best friend and husband, Larry, enjoying our time talking, traveling and spending time with our children and grandchildren. I want to be with my family for all of the events in their lives, as well as the challenges. I want to watch my children and grandchildren grow up. I want to attend their functions and be part of their lives. But I am so happy to have lived to help plan my daughter's wedding on July 20, 2013. I am amazed that my desire to participate in this wonderful celebration somehow gave me the strength to do so. I do not leave this earth peacefully, but reluctantly. I did not battle with cancer, but tried to overcome it with good living, good thoughts, good treatments and a good oncology team. I am grateful for friends and family who have been so supportive and kind. I feel your love and appreciate all that you have done for me. I grew up in Grafton, MA, the oldest child of Howard and Mary (Fleming) Bassett, both of whom died too young. I attended Grafton Schools and then Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. I was lucky to have chosen nursing as my profession. That choice saved my life when in 1970, my nursing school chest X-ray revealed what was soon diagnosed as Hodgkin's Disease. Because of that early discovery, I was cured of that cancer and was able to work 40 years as an RN, and later earn a BS and an MS at Worcester State College. Being cured of cancer also allowed me my greatest achievement: to have 5 beautiful, wonderful and healthy children. My family is the joy of my life. While married to Richard M Toomey, we had 3 daughters. Merideth Toomey is now an RN, and with Nicholas Milionis, parents of my 2 grandchildren: Molly Jean Milionis (who loves to sing) and Sidney Iris Milionis (who loves to read and write). They live close by in Worcester. Pamela Toomey Hart married Tim Hart on July 20, 2013. They live in a unique log home in Hubbardston, MA with 3 rescued pit bulls, chickens and plans for a small farm. Pam is currently attending Boston College for her MS in Social Work and working as case manager for her fellow veterans. Joanna Toomey lives in Worcester and is happily utilizing her degree in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations at the BBB. In 1994 I married Lawrence R Whiting, MD. We bought a big, old house in the Tatnuck area of Worcester that needed much more than "a little work". We have spent the last 20 years together fixing up that house and raising our two children together with my first three. Elizabeth Whiting is currently studying to become an RN at Worcester State University after spending 2 years at the University of Delaware. Jonathan Whiting graduated from Doherty HS in 2013 and will attend the University of Lowell majoring in Electrical Engineering. He is an accomplished guitarist. Our family also includes our dogs, Dozer and Tiger Lily, full of unconditional love and warmth, and a sweet kitten named Clara. Larry and I are grateful that we decided to travel with the children while they were young. We have made indelible memories of Nice, Paris, Rome, London, Amsterdam, the Caribbean and many National Parks in the US. We also enjoyed spending time at New Hampshire lakes with family and friends boating, water skiing, hiking, singing and eating around campfires. I have always felt especially bonded and loving towards my siblings as our mother died when we were young. I wish I had been able to fill the hole left in our lives due to our mother's early death. My youngest brother, John Bassett and his wife Deb live in South Grafton. Howard D Bassett Jr and his wife Theo live in Keene, NH. Their daughter, Megan lives in Hinsdale, NH. My sister Martha Bassett lives in Ware, MA with her friend David Robinson. Cynthia Bassett Maurer and her husband Eric live in Holt, MO with their sons, James and Aaron. I think of all of Larry's sisters as my true "sisters" more than just sisters-in-law. Carolyn Whiting lives in Reading, MA, Joanne Fortin lives in Westfield, MA and Barbara Whiting Drew and her husband Scott live in Newtown, PA with their children Lauren and Jeffrey. Thank you so much for your acceptance, love and support of me. I am a 43 year survivor of cancer, not a victim. Despite the fact that I again have cancer, my long survival is miraculous. Cancer certainly challenges a person, their family and their friends, but it also gives us a chance to think about what is important, the way we want to live, and the message we want to give. It allows you to say I love you to a wider circle of friends, and to say I love you more often to family. Many friends and family have gone to great effort to gather to celebrate life with me. I so appreciate your delicious food, flowers, enjoyable get-togethers and your sharing of stories and love. What a gift! You are my gift! My moments of joy. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. Thank you for those moments, those gifts. I love you. I have chosen to donate my body to the University of Massachusetts Medical School in recognition of the importance of studying the human body in the education of medical students with the expectation that they will use what they learn from me to help relieve human suffering. There will be a Memorial Celebration of Life on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, Boylston, MA. The service will begin at 11:00 AM followed by a reception and light lunch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter in East Brookfield. | Bassett, Laura Jean (I2359)

| 52547 | Worthington Funeral Home ? Chadbourn ? 20 September 2023 Lola Kaye Bass Beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, friend and educator, Lola Kaye Garrell Bass [71], of Chadbourn, NC, passed away on September 19, 2023 at the Angel House Hospice Center surrounded by her family, following an extended illness. Lola was born on September 24, 1951, in Whiteville, NC to E.L. and Violet Garrell. As the oldest of five children, she was a much loved big sister. Lola graduated from Whiteville High School before obtaining her AA from Southeastern Community College, and her BS in Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. As a working teacher and mother of two, she later completed her Master of Education from the University of South Carolina. Lola met the love of her life, Chadborn native Larry Bass, when both were high school seniors cruising downtown Whiteville. "When you know you know," they said and they eloped on September 27, 1969 - just three days after her 18th birthday. They remained devoted and loving life partners for nearly 54 years. Lola loved reading books, taking and cataloging pictures, cultivating and taking care of plants, and campers by the water. But her favorite things were not things at all, but her "people". She and Larry couldn't wait to start a family, and their daughter Lori Bass Gelezinsky (Barry) arrived in 1972 followed by their son Larry Eric Bass (Ginger) in 1975. She loved her children and their spouses unconditionally, but the ones who really had her heart were her grandchildren, Brady Chance Gelezinsky, followed by Erica Jade Bass, Layla Gelezinsky Fonvielle (Caleb), Coleman Blake Bass and finally her great grandson Easton Hunter Fonvielle. Lola had a tremendous gift for teaching and became a mentor to other educators. She spent 26 years in the classroom as "everyone's favorite teacher." She loved her students and co-workers at Chadbourn Middle School and eventually became the Academically and Intellectually Gifted Specialist for Columbus County Schools. She was also voted teacher of the year by her peers on numerous occasions and was named 1996 Columbus County Teacher of the Year. In addition to her beloved husband, children and grandchildren, Lola also leaves behind her sisters Lynn Whitesell (Mark) of Wilmington, Grace Mishoe of Whiteville, and brother Mike Garrell (Terri) of Cheraw. She was predeceased by her parents E.L. and Violet Garrell, her sister Miriam Garrell Prince (Bill) of Tabor City, and her niece Farrah Prince also of Tabor City. Lola will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Visitation will be held at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn at 1:00 p.m. Thursday September 21, 2023 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Angel House Hospice Care Center (lifecare.org) in Whiteville, NC. | Garrell, Lola Kaye (I5284)

| 52550 | Wrenn-Yeats Funeral Home Terry Willard Bass October 25, 1950 ? October 17, 2025 Terry Willard Bass, 74, of Ringgold, Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at 11:13 a.m. on October 17, 2025, in Danville, Virginia. Terry is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Bass; his children and their spouses, Amy Lovern (Chris), Jan Hunter (Shawn), and Brad Bass (Anthony); his cherished grandchildren Jasmine Caruthers (Josh), Morgan Hunter, Ryan Hoskins (Hunter), McKenzie Barber (Jackson), and Justin Galde; and his four great-grandsons, who brought him endless joy ? Jai, Jonah, Jericho, and Weston. He is also survived by his brothers Barry Bass (Linda), Larry Bass, and Chris Bass (Ellen), and was preceded in death by his brother Teddy Bass. A lifelong tobacco farmer, Terry worked hard and took great pride in his land and in his deep roots within the Ringgold community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found joy in the simple and steady rhythm of country life. He loved being outdoors ? whether hunting with friends, playing a round of golf when he was able, or driving the back roads and fields, watching for deer and soaking in the beauty of the land he loved so much. Though a quiet man, when Terry spoke, people listened. His words carried weight, wisdom, and often a touch of humor. Evenings were best spent in his favorite blue recliner, relaxing after a long day?s work and enjoying television with Brenda, his family, and friends by his side. Terry?s faith was the foundation of his life. A regular attendee of Temple Baptist Church, he found comfort, peace, and fellowship there. In the days before his passing, Terry shared the words that defined his heart and faith: ?Nothing else matters if you don?t have Jesus.? He lived by that truth every day ? with humility, gratitude, and love. The family takes great comfort in knowing that not only was Terry welcomed into Heaven by his Savior, but also by his beloved Mama, Daddy, and baby brother, whom he has missed so much. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 5?7 P.M. at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. Funeral Services will take place on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 2 P.M. at the same location. Interment will follow the service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Sovah Danville ICU for their kindness and excellent care. Terry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Bass family. | Bass, Terry Willard (I337)
