Laferriere, both of Moosup, Connecticut; and three grandchildren: Emily C. Smith, Benjamin A. Smith, and Noah R. Smith, all of Millbury. He was born in Worcester on January 22, 1958, son of the late Samuel M. and Pearl O. (Bassette) Smith, and though he resided briefly in Douglas and Sutton, he lived most of his life in Millbury. He attended Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School, Upton. Kevin was a self-employed truck driver. Previously, he was a maintenance supervisor for 12 years at Wyman-Gordon Company, North Grafton. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and boating. His funeral will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 21, in Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Millbury. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, February 21, from 5 to 7 p.m., before the funeral service. (Bouvier) Bassett, 90, of Kennebunk, Maine, formerly of North Grafton, passed away March 23, 2015. Her husband Chester Bassett passed away in 1984. She is survived by her daughter Linda Starbard, granddaughter Marisa Stam and her husband Aaron Stam, great-grandchildren Lucas and Lillian Stam, her brothers Napoleon and Milton Amour, and many nieces and nephews. Her siblings, Evelyne, Shirley, Lillian, Clarence, Clifford and baby brother Frederick, all predeceased her. Eva was born in Grafton, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Rosalma (Champaigne) and Peter Bouvier. She worked at Heald Manufacturing/Cincinnati Milacron for more than 20 years. Eva had a strong work ethic and retirement couldn't hold her back. She continued to work at Janette's Women's Clothing in Grafton and then at Walmart in Northborough before relocating to Maine to be with her daughter. Eva lived a beautiful life of love and grace, even in the most difficult times. She had a quick wit a mischievous smile. Her family would like to share their gratitude for the loving care she received at Springbrook Center in Westbrook and at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born in Winchendon, daughter of Earl P. and Ethel M. (Smith) Loomis and had lived in Rindge for 14 years. She leaves her husband of 52 years, E. Richard Bassette of Rindge; a son, Richard E. Bassette of Danbury, Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bassette was a 1941 graduate of Murdock High School. Mrs. Bassette was a study hall monitor at Murdock High School before her retirement in 1983. No services are planned. After cremation, burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. "Nellie" Magrath, age 103, formerly of Spring Street died peacefully Tuesday October 30, 2012 at St. Camillus Healthcare after an illness. She is survived by nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, neighbors, and several close friends. She was sister of the late Dr. George Magrath, Helen R. Magrath,Olive Burgoine, and Edith Rankin. Born in Whitinsville on November 18, 1908, Nellie was the daughter of George H. and Sarah A. (Bassett) Magrath and lived here all her life. Ms. Magrath worked many years as a domestic for the Paul Whitin and E. Kent Swift families of Whitinsville as well as the Stoddard and Higgins Families of Worcester. She retired at 62. Educated in the Northbridge public school system, Nellie was a quiet woman who was devoted to her family, especially her parents. She also enjoyed spending time with her sister Helen. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Whitinsville. Her funeral service will be held Friday, November 2 at 10 a.m. in Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring Street. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Linwood Avenue. A calling hour will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Bassett, Sr., 94, of Meola Avenue passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Lanessa Extended Care Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Frances M. (Orsi) Bassett of Worcester; two sons, Kenneth C. Bassett and his wife Doreen of Dudley, and Alan Bassett of Alachua, FL; a daughter, Cynthia M. Dame and her husband Kenneth of Myrtle Beach, SC.; four grandchildren, Chad Bassett, Kayla Casiello, Tiana Youmatz, and Kelly Bassett; and three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Max, and Peyton. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Jackie Jaggard, and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Riani Bassett. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Clifton J. Bassett and Eula (Warren) Bassett and lived in Worcester for most of his life. He graduated from Boys Trade in Worcester, and then joined the United States Army, serving proudly during the Korean War. Mr. Bassett worked for PW Sherman Furniture Company for 40 years, retiring in 1996. During his retirement, Mr. Bassett worked at Holden Hills Country Club, where he would often sneak away during the day to play a few holes. He was an avid golfer and always enjoyed playing with his sons. The family of Kenneth would like to thank the staff at Lanessa for their excellent and compassionate care. A graveside service will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton, at a later date. Cochran, all of Marlboro. He was born in Cambridge, son of Richard J. Bassett, and lived here most of his life. Mr. Bassett was a chef at the Marriott Hotel in Westboro for the past two years. He was previously a chef for six years at several area restaurants. The funeral will be Monday from John P. He leaves his mother, Francine C. Brodeur of Southborough and his father, Roland J. Bassett Jr. of Northborough and his step-mother Michelle (Maria) Bassett of Marlborough. He was step-brother to Krystal, Kyle and Lindsey Bassett of Northborough. He also leaves his grandparents, Roland and Anne (Hanson) Bassett Sr. of Northborough, Claire (Cadieux) Brodeur of Marlborough and Albert and Caroline Borelli of Framingham and Robert Brennan of Marlborough. He also leaves many cousins and a nephew. He was born in Framingham and graduated from Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough in 2001 and was a freshman at Mass Bay Community College where he was studying biotechnology. He recently spoke of becoming a transfer student to Taiwan. Kevin was a very talented artist and liked to draw for a hobby. His interests varied including fishing, camping, playing bass guitar, collecting swords and memorabilia from rock bands. Kevin made time to be with his family and was very protective of his younger siblings. He had an infectious smile that would light up a room. Considered to be a non conformist, he never-the-less demonstrated strong loyalty and respect for members of his family. Following cremation at Rural Crematory in Worcester, a time of visitation will be held on Friday (Apr. 27, 2007) at the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough from 6 till 8 P.M. | 52465 | Worcester Telegram & Gazette, 22 Jun 2009 Robert T. Bessette (Picture included) Robert "Bob" T. Bessette, of Gilbertville died on Saturday June 20th surrounded by his loving family. Bob, son of the late Francois and Ida (Mercure) Bessette, was born in Ware on May 24, 1921. He grew up in Thorndike, graduated from St. Anne's School in Three Rivers and Palmer High School. He attended Worcester Jr. College and Umass-Amherst. He was Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, serving as a radio operator-gunner on a B-29 in WWII, participating in the invasion of Normandy. After the war, he moved to Gilbertville and resided with the late George and Albertina (Peltier) Bessette and their children. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Jeanette (Lavigne) Bessette, his children: Janet Bessette with whom he lived, Robert F. Bessette and his wife Suzanne (Hawkins) of Belmont NH, and Mary R. (Bessette) Vigliano and a granddaughter Sophie Irene Vigliano of Danbury CT. He also leaves his close cousins Phyllis Hanson and her husband Eugene "Wes", and Doris Bessette all of Gilbertville, and Ernest Bessette and his wife Helen of Ware. He also leaves his sisters in-law Claire Irwin and Shirley Podkowka both of Ware. He was predeceased by his half-sister Nora (Mercure) Merchant of RI and his brother-in-law Raymond Lavigne of Ware. Bob worked at the Former Ludlow Specialty Papers of Ware, at a variety of positions including supervisor from 1945 until retiring in 1983. He also served as an assessor for the Town of Hardwick from 1983 to 1997. He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church, where he was a lector and had served as president of the Holy Name Society. Bob was an officer for the Hardwick Police Dept., for many years beginning in the 1950's. He had a long career of volunteerism and community service. He was an assistant Cub Master for the Boy Scouts, was a member of the local Civil Defense Agency, a trustee of the Gilbertville Public Library, a member of the VFW Post, and of the Sons of the Legion. He served American Legion Post 246 in every position including, Commander, Treasurer and Chaplain. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11am in St. Aloysius Church in Gilbertville with burial in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10:30 at the Charbonneau Funeral Home in Ware. He leaves his wife of 33 years, Mary D.(Baker) Baker-Wood, his son, Adam R. Wood of Worcester, his daughter, Catherine H. Wood of Boston, a brother, Roger W. Wood, Jr. of Gaithersburg, MD., and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Beverly Ann Avery in 2005. Ralph worked as a research technician at Norton Co. in Worcester for 35 years, retiring in 2001. Born in Worcester, he was the son of Roger W. Wood, Sr. and Helena (Bassett) Wood and graduated from David Prouty High School in 1956. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1956-62 stationed in Okinawa, Japan. On his return, he attended Worcester State College. He loved travel, fishing, camping, and family vacations at the Cape, Maine and the Berkshires. He attended many Norton/St.Gobain retiree events and cherished his many years and friendships with co workers at Norton. (Bassett) Ranslow, 101, of Keene, New Hampshire, and formerly of Uxbridge, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011 in Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, NH. She was the wife of the late George W. Ranslow who died in 1992. Mrs. Ranslow had been employed by the former Bernat's Woolen Mill, formerly the Bauchman Worsted Mill, as a secretary in the design department. She was born May 22, 1910 in Woonsocket, RI, the daughter of the late Verne and Carrie (Holbrook) Bassett. She attended Woonsocket schools and graduated from Hill College in Woonsocket, RI. She lived in Uxbridge until moving to St. Petersburg, FL in 1970 and then to Keene, NH. Mrs. Ranslow was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Millville and had attended St. Bede's Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg, FL. She was a past Noble Grand of the Iola Rebekah Lodge, past Matron of Orion Chapter #110 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Uxbridge, and a member of the Uxbridge Grange #200. She was also a member of the Friendship and Women's Clubs at the Town Apartments in St. Petersburg, FL. She is survived by one daughter, Eleanor Mae Doble of Keene, NH, with whom she lived; one sister, Dorothy Burton of Mendon, MA; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. She was predeceased by one sister, Edith Chasteen and her son, George Wesley Ranslow. A memorial service will be held Sat., Dec. 10, 2011 at 10 AM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 N. She was born May 22, 1910 in Woonsocket, RI, the daughter of the late Verne and Carrie (Holbrook) Bassett. She attended Woonsocket schools and graduated from Hill College in Woonsocket, RI. She lived in Uxbridge until moving to St. Petersburg, FL in 1970 and then to Keene, NH. Mrs. Ranslow was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Millville and had attended St. Bede's Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg, FL. He was the tax collector for this town from 1965, adding the Borough of Danielson to his responsibilities in 1975 and serving in the dual posts until 1980, when he retired. He leaves his wife, Rose A. (Barrette) Bessette; a son, Adrien D. Bessette of Danielson; a daughter, Doris B. Bessette of Danielson; and a brother, Bernard Bessette of Brooklyn. Born in Brooklyn, he was a son of Oliver J. and Marie (LaBarre) Bessette. His family moved to Danielson when he was a boy. He majored in public administration, business and finance at the University of Connecticut and University of Hartford. RAN CLOTHING STORE He and his wife ran Shumway's Clothing Store on Main Street for 25 years, from 1947. Mr. Bessette served 20 years with the Army National Guard and was a recruiting officer during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the Pachaug Outdoor Club, the Killingly Rifle Club and the Mohegan Rifle League. He was a probation officer for Killingly and a deputy sheriff for Windham County. He was a lieutenant with the fire police of Danielson Fire Department. Mr. Bessette was a former chairman of the Danielson Merchants Bureau and former assistant secrertary of Killingly-Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. He was a former chairman of the legislative committee of Connecticut Tax Collector's Association. He was a former exalted ruler of the Danielson Lodge of Elks and a member of the Knights of Columbus. She was born in Eden, VT, daughter of the late Ezra and Ada (Bessette) Davis, whose family moved to North Brookfield when Winnie was 6 months old for her parents to run the Town Farm. From there, Winnie's family moved to East Brookfield and in 1942 to Barre, MA. Winnie graduated from Worcester's David Hale Fanning Trade School or "Girl's Trade" in June 1943. Winnie met Bob Merriam while traveling by train to school, and they were married in East Brookfield Baptist Church in July 1943. A year later, she joined Bob, who was stationed in Clovis, New Mexico. After World War II, Winnie and Bob built their home on Merriam District in 1946 and she lived there until Bob's death last October. Mrs. Merriam worked at David Clark Company in Worcester for over 30 years, where she manufactured the link-net for the Gemini and Apollo spacesuits and had the opportunity to meet many of America's first astronauts as they were fitted for their spacesuits. She attended Greenville Baptist Church and North Oxford Baptist Church. Winnie was a member of the Holiday Rambler Trailer Club and the North American Family Camping Association ? Worcester Chapter. Bob was born December 12, 1947 in Hartford, CT, son of the late Patricia (Bessette) and William Fahlbeck. His roots were in Grafton where he graduated from high school and lived for most of his life. He worked for many years at UPS, Wyman Gordon and Astra Pharmaceuticals where he built many friendships. Later in life he started his own business, B&F Sealcoating, which he ran for 16 years. Away from work he looked forward to bird hunting trips with his friends and beloved dogs at Rutland State Forest and deer and turkey hunting in Royalston and October Mountain. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends at Salisbury Beach where a cold Bud Light and a campfire with friends made him happiest. Closer to home he could easily be found at the poker table where his friends affectionately called him "Big Gulp", or finding odds and ends at yard sales around town. Gail was born in Clinton to the late James & Florence (Bassett) Bellarosa. She graduated from Tahanto Regional High School, Class of 1969, where she excelled in athletics and played varsity basketball for 5 years, joining the team as an 8th grader. Throughout her teen years Gail modeled for the Clinton Dress Shop and was recognized in her senior yearbook as "best dressed." She pursued her passion to work in healthcare and obtained her LPN from Worcester School of Nursing, Class of 1971. Gail was adored by her colleagues and patients throughout her successful career at Clinton Hospital, from where she retired after many years as a surgical nurse. She proudly served as President of the LPN Union for Clinton Hospital and held numerous professional affiliations. Throughout her lifetime, she held a great passion for traveling, cooking, and gardening. She was a lover of all animals, especially her cats. Gail was taken far too soon and will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who had the pleasure to have known her. A private burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Clinton. She lived most of her life in Charlton. Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother and her great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She had a special relationship with each and every person she and counted she was a devoted mother and grandmother and great-grandmother she will be greatly missed and loved ?. Remember be kind. Bessette, 76, of Baldwinville Rd. died in Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital, Gardner, after an illness. He leaves three brothers, James Bessette of Gardner, Norman Bessette and Leo Bessette both of Fitchburg; four sisters, Evelyn Rounds of Sparks, Nevada, Janet Jenness of San Jose, Calif., Irene McGowen of Lynn and Esther Helie of Winchendon; nieces and nephews. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Louis and Elizabeth (Bushman) Bessette. He worked as as a paper maker at Crocker Burbank Co. until he joined the Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Service Star and five Overseas Bars. The funeral will be held tomorrow from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Bessette Sr., 58, of 999 Thompson Road, a maintenance worker, died Wednesday at home after being stricken ill. He leaves a close friend, Sandra Roy, with whom he lived; three sons, George Bessette Jr. of Danielson, Billy Roy and Jeremy Bessette, both of Thompson; three daughters, Lisa Wood of Danielson, Joanne Demers and Michele Integlia, both of Dayville; a brother, Arthur Bessette of Plainfield; four sisters, Doris Soltez and Rita Babcock, both of Danielson, Rose Swatzell of Woodstock and Cecile Cusson of Dayville; seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A daughter, Beverly Bessette, died in 1995. He was born in Putnam, son of Ernest A. and Leona (LaCroix) Bessette, and moved here almost 20 years ago. Mr. Bessette worked in the maintenance department at St. Mary School, Putnam, for many years until he died. He also worked at St. Mary Church and St. Mary Cemetery. He previously worked at Colt's Plastics and Prym Co., both in Dayville, and InteRoyal, Plainfield. He was a member of Irish-American Club, Putnam, and several area French clubs. The funeral will be held tomorrow from Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Bassett, 65, beloved wife of David Bassett, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Worcester and raised in Princeton, Gale was the daughter of the late Harold and Louise (Wilson) Paulson. Gale had a passion for the ocean. She enjoyed sportfishing in the warm waters of Key West, Florida as well as walking along the shore in the cooler waters of York, Maine. She was an avid reader, and you would often find her with a book in hand. She was an outgoing person, always ready to lend a helping hand. She often volunteered her time to help prepare taxes for the elderly in Leominster, Rutland and Holden. Gale was a skilled paralegal and enjoyed working for Bennet & Forts in Holden for many years. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband of 47 years, David Bassett of Princeton and her close friends, Abbie Lampula of Jaffrey, NH and David "D.J" Johnson of Princeton, MA, who were like children to her throughout the years; along with many other friends and family members. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 5 at South Cemetery in Princeton.
