| 2960 | The Roanoke Times, Virginia, Thursday, 7 September 2023 Susan Bassett Bidwell August 23, 1940 ? September 1, 2023 Susan Jane Bassett Bidwell of Boise, Idaho passed on September 1, 2023. She was raised in South Britain, Connecticut by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Bassett. She attended The University of Connecticut where she received a BA in English in 1961. She then made the first of many moves by getting a job with the federal government in Washington, DC. It was here that she met her future husband Richard Bidwell, whom she married in 1965. Throughout her life she was never afraid to relocate, and subsequently made her home in Germany, Australia, various parts of Virginia, and finally Idaho. Susan was driven to find aesthetic perfection in every part of her life. She used this artistic bent and studied photography for almost 40 years, first using her family as subjects. After too much fidgeting from them, she finally settled on the abstract still life as her focus. While living in Roanoke, Virginia, she became involved with the Market Gallery which gave her a chance to display her work and meet fellow artists. In addition to photography, she was a voracious reader, excellent cook and bread baker, and a lover of cinema, often saying the movie theatre was her church. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tom Reding of Boise, Idaho; daughter Anne Bidwell and son-in-law, Ryan Lasater of Alameda, California; her sister Sally McClure of East Berlin, Connecticut, and her sister Nancy Bassett of Iowa. The family wishes to thank St Luke's Hospice, caregiver Gudrun, and Home Instead, caregiver Susan. | Bassett, Susan Jane (I2440)

| 2975 | The Sampson Independent, Clinton, North Carolina, Friday, 31 July2026 Eunice E. Bass Following a difficult struggle with Lewy Body Dementia, on July 26, 2026, our beloved mama, Eunice O. Bass, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus, her Savior. She was the daughter of Fred and Mittie Lockamy Owens and grew up in the Kitty Fork area of North Carolina, where she had fond memories of her friends from Herring School. After graduating high school, she attended Campbell College and became a secretary for Sampson County Extension for a time. On Jan. 14, 1956, Eunice married the love of her life, Lonnie Jackson Bass, Sr. Side by side, she helped him on the farm and helped make their dreams become reality. All the while, she made a comfortable home for their three children. She enjoyed having a big garden, canning and freezing food for family, and sharing its bounty with neighbors and friends. She was a talented seamstress and often made clothes for her family as well as other items for the home. She was not one to verbalize her love, nor was she a hugger, but we never doubted her love, for she showed us in so many ways how much she loved us. Mama and Daddy were always active in their church, Mt. Gilead Baptist, and made sure their children had a strong Christian foundation on which to build our lives. We are so thankful to them for teaching us how to work, worship, and love others by the example they set for us. Mama had a kind and gentle heart, and she showed her love for others by the way she cared for them. She took care of her parents during their latter years as well as her only sibling, McKinley Owens (even though she said she would kill him if she ever got big enough because he used to tease and taunt her so much, being 11 years older than her). She cared for Daddy through his health issues and finally his Lewy Body Dementia journey. Mama was an incredible southern cook, always able to whip up a meal for anyone who stopped by at mealtime. Mama's spiritual gift was definitely hospitality. Everyone looked forward to her made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits and fried chicken, among her many other specialties. Mama had such a gentle spirit, a willingness to listen, and a warm, infectious laugh. She found great joy at the cabin she and Daddy designed and built together. Its simplicity reminded her of a quieter, simpler way of life that she deeply cherished. She enjoyed spending time rocking on the porch overlooking the pond with Daddy while they ate a nab and drank a Mountain Lightning, reliving dreams that came true and ones for the future. Mama was lost without Daddy when he passed away in 2020. She longed for the day they would be reunited in heaven. She often said she would be happy with a little cabin in heaven with Daddy, and we trust that is where she is. She also said many times that she hoped she did not get kitchen duty in heaven. If, because of her expertise, she does, we are sure she will enjoy every minute of it for God is good! Eunice is survived by daughters, Deborah Thompson (Johnny) and Lora Marshall (Johnny) of Clinton, and son, Lonnie Jackson Bass, Jr. (Chad) of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Gavin Thompson (Jesse), Brandon Thompson (Kimberly), Blake Thompson (Madison), Zack Marshall (Brittainy), Meredith Marshall and Kyle Marshall. She also has 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Celebration of her homegoing will follow at 3 p.m., with a short graveside service. Family will receive visitors at other times at the home. Memorials may be given to Lewy Body Dementia Organization or Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The family wishes to give special thanks to Patsy Joyner, Orletta Faison, and Charlene Bell for all the care and kindness you showed to Mama these past few months during this difficult time. We could not have done it without your help, God's grace and mercy, and the prayers and love of our church family and friends. Thank you also to Gentiva Hospice's Courtney Bell and Pam Guidry. We appreciate your gift of helping the terminally ill. Thank you to the special ladies in the Olivia Marshburn Class whose friendship meant so much to Mama. | Owens, Eunice O. (I46157)

| 2981 | The Saratogian, August 4, 2019 Florence B. Hinckley (Picture included) 1930 ? 2019 GREENFIELD CENTER - On July 24, 2019 Florence's earthly life terminated and we are confident that her soul now rests peacefully in the presence of Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. Florence (Flo) was married to William (Bill) for 69 years. He was the love of her life, her companion and the father of her 7 children. Together they journeyed through all the ups and downs that life gave them and since his death in December she longed to be reunited with her other half.Florence was blessed with a long life and was a splendid example to all with whom she came in contact of what it means to be a Christian woman. She was a unique woman with a fabulous gift for liking other people no matter what their situation in life happened to be. We have seen her enfold some challenging people in her own life, people society shunned, just because, as she put it ? they are human and they need to be loved. She truly was an ambassador for Christ.Flo always shared with her mother Florence, a love of flowers. When we would visit her parents in Ithaca, New York the two Flo's would disappear for hours. Eventually we would find them in one or another flower garden happily pulling weeds while cementing their relationship. Back in Greenfield, following her mother's passing, daughter Flo carried on the gardening tradition, for grubbing in the dirt helped her to maintain her memories of her mother. She, in turn, passed the love of gardening to her children. If you didn't know Flo, we cannot paint a complete picture of her here but some highlights follow. She was every bit as proficient in the kitchen as she was stacking firewood in the barn. She loved animals and making crafts. She learned to drive a stick shift car and mastered the good old typewriter. She was a ?number please girl? (telephone operator) for many years in order to put her husband through college, and she served as a mainstay employee at Bill?s News Room, a family venture located in Schuylerville. Her working career ended with a 30-year stretch in the business office at Saratoga Hospital holding down a position for which she was perfectly qualified.Flo?s crowning jewel was as a mother. In addition to all of the ways she found to keep Bill?s life running smoothly, she agreed to become a mother and produced seven youngsters. She did a great job doing most of the day to day work of raising them. It delighted her to know that her seven children continue to like and help one another to this day. When the good Lord brought Flo and Bill together so many years ago, he certainly started something! Florence was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Florence Bassett of Saratoga Springs and Ithaca, New York. Mr. Bassett had been the director of the Fur Animal Experiment Station on Route 9N while they lived in Saratoga. She was also predeceased by four siblings; George, a pilot who was killed just as WW2 was ending, Elizabeth (William) Kark of Sprakers, NY, Charles Bassett of Rochester, NY, Margaret Vicari of Newport, NC. Two siblings remain as survivors: Col. James R. (Judy) Bassett of Toledo, WA, and Jean (John) Kinyon of Holly Springs, NC. Survivors also include Florence?s 7 children Patricia (Leon) Gordon of Pompton Lakes, NJ, Carol (Dale) Gerbing of Ballston Lake, Nancy (Timothy) Stevens of Saratoga, Diane (Robert) Loviza of Saratoga, William Jr. and Daniel (Julie) Hinckley, both of Greenfield Center, and Mary (James) O?Connell of Ballston Spa.. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held August 10th at the First Baptist Church, 202 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. Visitation at 9:30, service at 10:30 followed by a light lunch reception. The family, at Flo's request, asks that no flowers be sent but instead that memorial contributions be made to her favorite organizations: City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St, Schenectady, NY 12305, St.Jude's, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Malta Home of the Good Shepherd, (Please write "Activities" on the memo line), 26 Rock Rose Way, Malta, NY12010. | 2985 | The Seattle Times, Washington, 26 September 2019 Richard John Myhre Richard John (Dick) Myhre, who served his country faithfully during World War II and his family with love and devotion for more than 70 years, entered into the holy presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on September 16, 2019. He was 98 years old. To those who knew him, Dick was a man of remarkable decency, kindness and compassion. He savored his time with family and friends. He always put the concerns of others before his own. He rarely raised his voice unless it was to cheer on his beloved University of Washington Huskies. And his profound faith in the face of hardships, including the relentless disease that finally ended his life, was an inspiration to all. A man of many interests, he found solace fishing in quiet mountain streams. He enjoyed digging clams and chopping firewood at his waterfront Birch Bay home. He delighted in helping the needy, including the 14 overseas children he supported financially and with letters of encouragement. He loved good books and was always keen to learn something new. But his greatest passion was his Christian faith, and he never wavered from the belief that God had a purpose and plan for his life. In his final weeks, he was quick to share his faith with the doctors and nurses at the medical appointments that ultimately proved unsuccessful in prolonging his life. When the fateful prognosis became certain, he faced it with courage and acceptance, never uttering a bitter word. Dick was born in Tacoma on December 11, 1920. The son of Carl and Florence Myhre, he was raised in the Ballard area of Seattle, though he graduated from Kent High School in 1939. He later joined the National Guard and was mobilized to active duty in September of 1940. He was stationed at Fort Lewis outside of Tacoma when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941, and within four months he was on a troop ship headed to Efate in the New Hebrides Islands. Having received sanitation and medical training, he served in hospitals in the New Hebrides and later New Zealand before being assigned to a malaria-control unit on Saipan in the Marianas Islands. He was on Saipan in August of 1945 when the war ended. After the war, Dick enrolled at the U.W. and received an undergraduate degree in fisheries science in 1950, followed by a master's degree in 1960. He began working as a biologist at the International Pacific Halibut Commission in May of 1949 and remained for 36 years, including the final 14 years as assistant director. Dick married his wife Dorothy in May of 1949, and they settled in Edmonds to raise four children. They were active in the Edmonds United Methodist Church, and enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge and other activities with a special group of friends. After his retirement in 1985, he and Dorothy spent their remaining years in Edmonds and at homes in Birch Bay and Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by Dorothy in 2013. In his final days, Dick cited one of his guiding scriptures, Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight." They were important words to him in this life, and they took him safely into eternal life. Dick is survived by son Craig Knowlton (Sheryl) of Edgewood, son Keith Knowlton (Julie) of Kirkland, daughter Doy Groenenberg (Calvin) of Yakima, and son Richard Myhre Jr. (Joyce) of Edmonds. In addition, he is survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. An interment service for immediate family will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Garden Street United Methodist Church in Bellingham. Memorials may be made in Dick's name to Compassion International or the Whatcom Hospice Foundation. | Myhre, Richard John (I17455)

She soon learned how to balance her priorities when, in 1954, her life took her on an unexpected journey for the next 25 years when she was offered a job at Arkansas Bank and Trust Co. Jody began her banking career in the Proof and Bookkeeping Departments, being a teller and working in numerous other bank departments. She was trained to operate early generation Electronic Bookkeeping Machines. In 1961, she joined the Trust Department as a secretary/bookkeeper; determination led to her becoming an assistant trust officer and dedication to her profession resulted in her being promoted to trust officer in 1973, specializing in guardianships and estate administration. To further her career, she received her certificate from The Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, and became Arkansas' first of two women to earn their trust major certificate in 1973. Jody was also the first woman to hold an administrative faculty position at the school as director of School Activities and Special Programs. Jody had an infectious smile and charming personality, who was a strong leader and supporter of banker's education for women. She believed that it built your confidence, taught discipline and setting priorities, and it gave you a definite sense of accomplishment. She was inspired to become a trust officer in 1970 when she attended the first Women Bankers Conference and listened to a former Miss America say that "you can do anything you want to do, if you really want to do it." Jody subsequently achieved her goal and several others. In 1976, Jody was promoted to vice president and director of the newly formed Personal Services Department at ABT and was named director of the Training Department until her retirement in 1979. Jody was actively involved and respected in many professional and civic organizations. She was a charter member and past president of the Garland County Chapter of the National Association of Legal Secretaries, and she was "Legal Secretary of the Year" in 1971. She was past president of the Hot Springs Business and Professional Women's Club and its "Woman of the Year" in 1974. She was also past treasurer of Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce and a member of its Ambassadors Club. She also served on the Board of the YWCA and Lakewood Convalescent Home and member of the Garland County Jury Commission. Jody was a faithful and long-standing member of the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and participated in many church activities. She also enjoyed volunteering at the church thrift store. Funeral services by Gross Funeral Home will be Nov. 5. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, with services beginning at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor David Fleming. | 2991 | The South Georgia Conference of the UMC News, June 29, 2011 Q&A with Rev. Henry Bass ? Valdosta District Superintendent ADVOCATE: Where did you grow up? Have you always lived in South Georgia? REV. BASS: I was born in Athens, Ala. My father was from St. Cloud/Kissimmee, Fla., and my mother was from Athens, Ala. At childbirth I was given to my grandparents until the age of nine because my father was in the war and contracted tuberculosis and came back and gave it to my mother. So at birth I was given to my grandparents, and I lived with them on their farm in a little place called Tanner, which is between Athens and Decatur, Ala. ADVOCATE: Tell us about your family. REV. BASS: My wife is Jane Ellen, and we?ve been married 40 years in July (our anniversary is July 30). We have 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four children living. My son is in Acworth, Ga.; my youngest daughter is in Roanoke, Ala., my middle daughter is in Nashville, Tenn.; and my oldest daughter lives in Athens, Ala. We have lost two children, one when we were in Jesup and one while we were in Cairo. We?ve also lost two sons-in-law and my son was shot and paralyzed in 1995. I have been through a lot in life. ADVOCATE: Tragedy and heartache have been a part of your life since you were a young boy. How has God pulled you through? REV. BASS: My faith in God is what has pulled me through. I have a deep faith. My biggest faith is that I believe that God will always be with us, even in the difficult times as well as the good times. You need to enjoy God at that moment, for that day, because you never know what?s going to happen tomorrow. So my faith journey is this ? the just shall live by faith. We have to live by faith. We are the just; we?re the just people of God ? we?re justified through Christ. ADVOCATE: What?s your faith journey? Did you grow up in the church? REV. BASS: Even as a young boy in Vacation Bible School I wanted to serve God; I always wanted to serve God. At the age of 12 or 13 I was baptized in a Baptist church, and at that baptism I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior. My parents died when I was 19 and 21 years old, and I was 23 when my grandmother who I lived with died. So during that time, from when I was 19 to about when I was 27, I didn?t go to church and I was trying to escape through some drugs, pills mostly, and alcohol, but I knew about God and wanted to serve God, and it hit me one day that I needed to rededicate my life to Christ, and that?s when I started, at the age of 27. I entered the ministry at the age of 30, and my first appointment was in North Alabama. When I realized that I had messed up my life I told God that I?d do anything He wanted me to do and that?s how I ended up in pastoral ministry. I was willing to serve Him, and I wanted to do anything that He wanted me to do, but I didn?t realize what I was praying! The Lord kept opening doors for me to go into pastoral ministry, so I have been in it for 33 years now. ADVOCATE: How did you get started in ministry? REV. BASS: I served in the North Alabama Conference for 11 years. While I was serving in the North Alabama Conference I was in school at Emory University. I went back to school at the age of 30. I worked at Monsanto Chemical Company for 13 years in Decatur, Ala. But as a young boy, I grew up in the church. I grew up a Methodist and was given a Bible at Vacation Bible School at the age of nine, and it was one of the highlights of my life, to have a Bible. I started college at a junior college where I played basketball, and then went on to Birmingham Southern. I did my undergraduate work at Birmingham Southern, and from there I went on to Emory. At Emory, some of the South Georgia United Methodist pastors were recruiting people to come to South Georgia, and that?s how I got here. My father was in St. Cloud, my family was in Alabama, and South Georgia was in between. I started out in the Valdosta District in a little place called Doerun, and then went to Alamo, and then moved from Alamo to Alma, and then I served College Place in Brunswick. From College Place I went to Blakely and then went to Jesup, Vidalia and Cairo. ADVOCATE: How did you find out that you had been appointed to be a District Superintendent? Did you get a call from Bishop King? What was your reaction? REV. BASS: Bishop King called me on a Sunday night about 10:30, and I was totally surprised; I didn?t know anything about it. ADVOCATE: What are your visions, goals and hopes for the district? REV. BASS: The vision and goal I?ve always had for the churches I?ve served, wherever I go, is to build the kingdom within the kingdom. And within that kingdom you can reach out. If the church is healthy the church will bring people in. My goal has always been to rebuild; if I rebuild a church, or a district, then they?re going to renew themselves. My goal is to love the people, to share my faith with the people, and to help them to be encouraged to do the same thing that I?ve done ? to press on and not give up. ADVOCATE: What?s one challenge you see facing the Conference or District? REV. BASS: The challenge, for me, is to realize that I?m in a role of trying to encourage the churches as well as the preachers. I?ve got to readjust my mindset and realize that I?m going to be in the role of supervising people; I?m going to have to do the work of the kingdom in a role that?s totally different than being a local pastor. I?m going to have to minister to the local pastors as well as to the local churches, but I feel like if I minister to them and help them, then they?ll be the ones that?ll help the churches. This will be a larger flock in a larger setting; it?s a great opportunity to build the kingdom in a larger place. The Valdosta District has more than 14,000 members; that?s just a larger family (than I?m used to). ADVOCATE: What?s one thing that most excites you about the Valdosta District or the South Georgia Conference? REV. BASS: I am excited and enthused about this. Even though I know there are probably some others who are more qualified than I, I am willing to give it my best and say that we can all do this together. We?re going to make mistakes, and I?m going to make mistakes, but there is a time for change in life and there has been a change; with six new district superintendents there has been a tremendous change. I think the Valdosta District is a wonderful district; it?s a growing area and I feel like the opportunity for growth is really there. ADVOCATE: What do you like best about serving in the South Georgia Conference? REV. BASS: The South Georgia Conference received me well when I transferred from North Alabama, and they have been good to me and they have loved me. It?s a great place to serve; I like the area, I like the lay of the land and I like the people. It?s just a great place to live. ADVOCATE: How do you, in the midst of your busy schedule and your traveling, make time for your quiet time, prayer, and Bible study? REV. BASS: I set aside time every day for Bible study and prayer, but in my traveling is when I pray a lot. I pray a lot as I travel. I pray all the time, really. Traveling, though, is just a good time for me to just be with God ? unless someone calls me! ADVOCATE: What do you like to do in your free time? What are your hobbies and interests? REV. BASS: I play a little bit of golf, I love to fish, and we also go to the beach. I give my wife time just for her, and she likes the beach. ADVOCATE: What?s one fact about you that most people don?t know? REV. BASS: When I first came in this conference I served two years at Doerun in the Valdosta District and now I?m going to end my ministry in the Valdosta District. I am really excited about serving in the Valdosta District. I think it?s a really great place to be. It?s a great opportunity, it really is. | Bass, Henry Charlie (I571)

| 2998 | The Springs Funeral Services ? North Austin Bluffs ? 31 October 2025 Robert ?Bob? Bass Robert "Bob" Bass, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on October 28, 2025, at the age of 71. He was born on November 18, 1953, in Ventura, California, to Don and Viva Bass. Bob is preceded in death by his father Don Bass, his brother Donald Bass, and his beloved daughter Stephanie Bass. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kimberly "Kim" Bass; daughter Christina "Christie" Bass; mother Viva Bass; sister Heather Bass (Steven Usnick); and brothers Mike Bass (Annette), Tim Bass (the late Carie), and James Bass. Bob earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Missouri?Rolla and spent his career as a civil engineer specializing in dams, a job that he often enjoyed describing, with a smile, as being a "damn safety engineer." While living in Colorado Springs, Bob met Kim Wolfe through First Presbyterian Church, where their shared faith and sense of adventure brought them together. They were married on January 16, 1988, and built a life rooted in love, humor, and service. Bob enjoyed participating in mission trips to Juarez, Mexico, with the church, where he forged meaningful friendships and helped improve the lives of others. Bob and Kim welcomed their first daughter, Stephanie, on June 11, 1989, in Colorado Springs, and their second daughter, Christie, on December 2, 1991, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After enduring the heartbreaking loss of Stephanie in 2003, Bob faced life's challenges with quiet strength and deep compassion, cherishing every moment with family and friends. Music was one of Bob's lifelong passions. He shared his musical talents in church handbell choirs and playing impressive handbell solos. He passed on his love of music to both his daughters. He took immense pride in listening to Christie's musical performances throughout her studies and with the Pikes Peak Philharmonic. He loved to play the oboe and was able to pick the instrument up again during his final weeks for comfort. Bob was equally at home in nature as he was in the concert hall. He loved hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, cycling, skiing, and birdwatching, always equipped with his trademark hat and sunglasses along with a pair of binoculars or camera. His keen eye for beauty extended to photography, where he captured both the majesty of nature and the charm of everyday details, sharing his work with others through the Photocrowd community. At home, Bob delighted in baking scones and banana bread, preparing hearty brunches, and entertaining family with humor and warmth. He and his family shared a love of travel, exploring national parks, cities, and countries around the world together. Bob had a deep love for his extended shoal of Bass. He also felt deeply embraced by his wife's family, the Wolfe pack. He treasured the inclusion, love, and joy family brought to his life. He cherished his connections with his in-laws, nieces, nephews, and their children, always eager to share laughter, stories, and encouragement. Family gatherings were a source of great happiness and belonging for him. Bob will be remembered for his intelligence, wit, gentle spirit, and deep appreciation for life's simple joys; a good laugh, a good piece of music, and a beautiful view. In honor of Bob's lifelong love of music, donations may be made to the Pikes Peak Philharmonic in Colorado Springs at pikespeakphil.org. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. | Bass, Robert Lawson (I2886)
