John was born on December 15, 1931, to parents Ellsworth Leroy Bassett and Lillian Bassett in Rocky Ford, Colorado. His dad was a carpenter for a bridge and highway contractor, and the family moved all over the West working on projects. During this period, he and his brothers attended many different schools. John was entrusted to drive the school bus his senior year at Rye High School, even though he was only seventeen years old. After graduating from Rye High School in 1950, he went on to study at Pueblo Community College, where he later became a member of the advisory committee with their Building Construction Education Program. On January 24, 1951, John married his high school sweetheart, Mabel May Williams in Rye Colorado. John and Mabel went on to have four children, John E., Kenneth, Daniel, and Pamela. In April 1952 he volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps and served with the Fleet Pacific Distributing Pay Department. Back then, the Marines were paid in cash, and he loved to tell stories about going to remote bases with a big satchel of cash and a pistol on his hip to hand out payroll. John left the Marines in 1954 with an honorable discharge and the rank of Corporal. He started his first job in 1946 as a truck driver and laborer for Brown Construction Company who was a heavy and highway contractor. After his stint with Brown, he steadily worked his way up the ranks to superintendent with other contractors. In 1960 he joined Bassett Construction Co. of Pueblo, CO with his brothers Walter and Robert. During his twenty-five years at Bassett Construction, Co. he was at first a foreman, then superintendent, then Project Manager, and finally VP of Field Operations. He was involved in a multitude of construction projects in southern Colorado. You can?t drive around Pueblo without passing dozens of commercial and institutional buildings that he helped build. Just as importantly, he left a lasting legacy by mentoring family and coworkers in the construction trade. In 1988 John retired from Bassett Construction Co. and spent his time with his wife Mabel raising cattle, and chickens, and growing hay and peaches. Their visits with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren are special memories. They also enjoyed their RV club and traveled around the country. One of their favorite places was Aransas Pass, TX where they could enjoy the warm weather, oysters, and fishing. Some of the people they met along their travels became longtime friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth Leroy Bassett and Lillian Bassett; and brothers, Walter and Robert; along with two daughters-in-law, Donna and Debby. He is survived by his wife of almost 73 years, Mabel May Bassett; sons, John E. He ended a long bout of pancreatic cancer by his own hand, using his pain medications, when he could no longer eat and had become very weak. Bob spent his last night on a beautiful sagebrush-covered hill above town in the company of two friends, talking and reading aloud some of his favorite poems. He was in good spirits and claimed to be physically comfortable. As the morning light began to rise, he casually stated that the time had come to "get on with it," and began taking his medications, never displaying the slightest sign of apprehension as his end approached. Bob was born to Hugh Gale and Gertrude Bassett in Alhambra, California, on June 28, 1940. He moved to Montana with his family and graduated high school in Missoula. He served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps for almost four years beginning in June 1958 and was discharged with a Good Conduct Award. While on reserve status he began studies at the University of Montana, but did not immediately go on to graduation. His college education was gained in three separate episodes, and he graduated at the age of 45, majoring in the Russian language with a 3.9 GPA and a President's Recognition Award. Bob met his future wife, Sonya Blevins in 1986 while studying Russian at the university. They subsequently worked together at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia during three periods from 1990 until 2008, living in Missoula and then Butte during the interim periods. Bob and Sonya were together for 25 years until their divorce in 2011. They remained good friends until Bob's recent death. Sonya currently lives in Guangzhou, China where she works at the U.S. Consulate. Bob received a Franklin Award for his service at the U.S. Russian Embassy. Bob enjoyed playing chess and backpacking in the mountains. The beauty of the wild Montana landscape and the living creatures it shelters were his spiritual touchstone. Writing was the main preoccupation of his life. Two novels, "Song of Isaac" and "Blue Shift" were his most notable works. Bob was a gentle, kind, generous and highly intelligent man, a political idealist and a peace activist. He was a volunteer for the Foster Grandparents program. Sue Folawn of San Mateo, California is Bob's surviving sister. | 2018 | Myers Mortuary, Roy, Utah, October, 2021 Nevin Ammon Bassett Nevin Bassett passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 leaving behind one daughter, Janet Bassett, and two sons, Kevin Bassett and Deloy (Susan) Bassett. He also leaves behind two sisters, Nellie Cole and Mary Jean (Robert) Strawn and two brothers, Melvin (Dee) Bassett and Ronald (June) Bassett. He's was the proud grandpa of twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren that brought him pure joy. Those that passed before him include his parents, siblings and one great grandson. Nevin was born on May 26, 1935 in Afton, Wyoming, He grew up hauling logs, hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. He served in the United States Navy from 1954-1958 on the USS Kenneth Whiting. He married Doris Todd on March 17, 1958 and divorced in 1979. Dad worked at Hill Air Force Base for 25 years until he retired in 1993. Dad had a great garden and shared his bounty with family, friends and neighbors. He liked to can fruits and vegetables, but our favorite was his chokecherry syrup and salsa!!! He loved camping in Wyoming with his family. He enjoyed riding his Honda 90; three-wheeler, and four-wheeler in the mountains where he grew up. Dad loved his church calling as the Ward Secretary and served as Scout Leader and moved up to Scout Master in a troop sponsored by the Clearfield City Police Department. He took many scouts on adventures in Utah and, of course took them to Wyoming to share his love of the state with the youth. While reminiscing this week, we realized that if a family member, child or grandchild ever needed anything, he always responded with "Okay, I'll be right there!" He helped with house repairs, auto repairs, yard work, whatever we needed he was always there. And the best part of that was that Nevin was the "King" of Gerry Rig! He could fix anything or at least figure out a way to make something that was broken work. Dad struggled for many, many years with his hearing loss and later in life lost most of his vision due to Macular Degeneration. Because of this disability Dad spent had to spend his last two years in Pacifica Senior Living Center. He learned to love the staff that took care of him while he was there. We would like to thank the Pacifica Senior Living care staff and the staff at Active Home Health for their kindness to Dad especially during the last week of his life. He loved his brothers, sisters, children, grandbabies and especially the great grandbabies!!! And most importantly, his brothers, sisters, children, grandbabies and especially the great grandbabies loved him right back!! | Bassett, Nevin Ammon (I1436)

| 2035 | New Jersey Funeral Home Notice and Obituaries, Monday, 6 July 2026 Arthur J. Bass Arthur J. Bass, 68, of Janvier, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026. Born on August 1, 1957, in Elmer, New Jersey, Arthur was a lifelong resident of the Janvier community. He dedicated more than 50 years of his life to serving others as a proud member of the Janvier Volunteer Fire Company and as a fire warden with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. His unwavering commitment, courage, and selfless service touched countless lives and earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him. Arthur's greatest pride was his family. He shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maryann. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was a proud father to his daughter, Lauren, and adored his grand-dog, Candi, who was never far from his side. When Arthur wasn't serving his community, he enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved drag racing, looked forward to sharing ice cream cones with Candi, and took great pride in keeping his lawn immaculate?often mowing it several times a week simply because he enjoyed it. These everyday moments reflected the kind of man he was: hardworking, dependable, and someone who found happiness in life's little traditions. Arthur was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dorothy Bass (née Petersen); his father, Joseph Bass; and his sister, Ruth Ann Irelan. Arthur will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, steady presence, and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether answering the call to protect his community or spending time with those he loved, he lived a life defined by honor, humility, and service. Though his earthly watch has ended, his example of selfless service, unwavering dedication, and unconditional love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to Arthur's viewing on Friday, July 10th from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Bell-Hennessy Funeral Home, 420 S. Main St. Williamstown. Interment will follow at Janvier Cemetery. | Bass, Arthur J. (I9052)
