James Bassett Obituary, Find-a-Grave

James was born on February 23, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA to James E. Bassett a steelworker and Ruby Wofford Bassett a homemaker. James was called home to his heavenly reward on October 28, 2018 after a brief illness.

He was the oldest of eight children and raised in Glen Hazel Heights public housing. He distinguished himself as a scholar athlete in high school. He was given a scholarship to play baseball and basketball at Shaw University where he also pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. While matriculating at Shaw, he was drafted by the US Army to serve during the Vietnam war and was trained as a sharpshooter. Upon discharge, he returned to college and married his college sweetheart, Geraldine Joyner, and from this union, three children, Kimberly, Odetta, and James were born.

After graduation, James was employed as a social caseworker and worked in many capacities in the Anti-Poverty Programs. He also worked part-time at the Rahway State Prison as a counselor. In 1968, he began a 24 year career at AT&T in purchasing and supply chain management. Upon retiring from AT&T, James helped shape and serve as a role model to young people, black males in particular. James, an avid non-fiction reader, was deeply concerned about issues of social justice, equity, and opportunity, and committed the rest of his life to service and ministry. He also imparted his interest in art, music and sports to his children with his particular love for jazz, painting, and tennis.

Upon relocating to Atlanta, he became a teacher, affiliated with the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, and married Dorothy Mae Sizemore. In 1996, James joined Delta Airlines in Group Sales, found a new calling, and remained at Delta until his passing. His spiritual evolution transformed his later life by increasing his devotion to bible study, stewardship, evangelizing, and prayer. He answered the call of a prayer intercessor and had a deep personal relationship with God. James was a faithful member of New Birth?s Levite Prayer Ministry. Virtually everyone that met him was changed by an encounter with him. He actively engaged his life as living testimony to the transformational nature of his Christian walk. His ministry and agape love will be sincerely missed. As a devoted believer with an unwavering faith, he fully accepted and embraced the belief that ?to be absent from the body is to be present with Lord.?

Harrison Stebbins

In the death of Harrison Stebbins, late of Porter, Rock county has lost one of her most esteemed citizens. A Vermonter, born at Westfield, Orleans
county, June 8, 1820; educated at Norwich University, he removed in 1841 to
Janesville, Wisconsin Territory, with his young and amiable wife, formerly Miss Mary A. Bassett, of Montpelier, where they resided for nearly three years. Mr. Stebbins engaged in teaching and surveying. In 1844 they removed to Porter, upon the farm where the widow and only son still reside. The Stebbins home was ever a pleasant resort for friends or strangers, the genial host and hostess being equal to any social occasion. Mr. Stebbins besides attending carefully to his profession as farmer, was frequently called to fill town and county offices, and always with credit to himself and the satisfaction of the public. He had also represented his assembly district in the Legislature of the State with marked ability.

He was an honest and honorable man, a kind and thoughtful neighbor,
an intelligent and public spirited citizen, with a mind and heart for any
true reform movement. Religiously, he was in sympathy with the Universalist
Church. He will be greatly missed by the entire community, and more especially by the bereaved family, the members of which are one son S. P. Stebbins, and two daughters, Mrs. M. Savage, of Cooksville, and Mrs. H. Wood, of Stebbinsville. Mr. Stebbins died Sept. 7th 1882, and the funeral services were conducted on the 8th by Rev. G. W. Lawrence, of Janesville.

Paul Morris Schrader of Lake George Minnesota
June 22, 1940 ? March 7, 2021

Paul Morris Schrader, age 80, a long time Lake George area resident, peacefully passed from this life to eternal life on Sunday, March 7, 2021 with his loving wife, Beverly at his side caressing his hand.
Paul grew up in Walnut, Illinois where he attended grade school. His family later moved to Lyndon, Illinois where he attended high school. As a young man, Paul worked for a local farmer before entering the United States Navy on January 29, 1958, where he served as a Machinist Mate/Fireman aboard the USS Dashiell DD 659. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1960, he returned home to Illinois where he worked in building construction. On June 12, 1960, Paul was united in marriage to the love of his life, Beverly Sue Bass in rural Lyndon. They were blessed with five children: John, James, Paula, Jason, and Joshua. Paul began working for the Northwestern Steel and Wire Company for several years. In 1967, they moved with their children to Centralia, Missouri where Paul gained employment with an electrical component manufacturer working as a drill press operator and welder. In 1970, they returned to Lyndon where he returned to his previous employment at the steel mill. In 1977, Paul and Bev vacationed with their children in the Park Rapids area and enjoyed the area and its people so much they decided to move there. Paul again returned to working in building construction and remodeling. He was proud to have completed his GED in 1980, since he had not graduated from high school because of his desire to serve his country. Furthermore, in 1985, Paul went back to vocational school and became a professionally licensed semi-truck driver. He began his trucking career with Q Carriers in Savage, MN. Later, he and his oldest son, John and friend, Larry Johnson began a custom woodworking shop in Northfield, MN which they called, Dayspring Creations. Later he heard the open road calling and resumed his career with Anderson Trucking Service of St. Cloud, MN in 1997. He purchased his own truck in 1997 and became an owner/operator leased to ATS. He drove over the road until his retirement in 2006.
Paul was a faithful and active member of Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids, which is now known as Faithbridge Church. Paul loved the Lord and devoted his life to serving Jesus Christ. He had a poet?s heart and enjoyed writing poetry. Over 45 of his poems are part of the Faithbridge Library collection and speak of Christ?s love, forgiveness, and redemption. He loved to read, and study God?s word daily and enjoyed reading Christian action fiction. Throughout his life, Paul loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a gifted storyteller and loved to share his adventures of driving flatbed semi-trailers across the Atlantic Ocean beaches delivering building materials for ocean front construction projects or his treks on high mountain roads with sheer cliffs that were not engineered for 18 wheelers.
Paul is lovingly remembered by his precious wife and soulmate, Beverly Sue; his five children: John (Patricia) Schrader of Lake George, James (Toshia) Schrader of Perry, Iowa, Paula (Greg) Hovey of Phenix
City, Alabama, Jason Schrader, and Joshua Schrader both of Lake George; two sisters: Christine (Randy) Spotts of Rock Falls, Illinois, and Mary Alice Osborn of Georgia; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents 12 siblings and one daughter-in-law, Marcy Schrader in 2017.

Dr. James M. Daley (Picture included)

DR. JAMES M. DALEY Dr. James M. Daley, 70, of Olathe, KS, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017. James was born Nov. 25, 1946, in St. Johnsbury, VT, to Robert M. and Colombe (Bessette) Daley. His youth was full of love and laughter (and some mischief) as he grew up surrounded by aunts and uncles and cousins. His love of books and reading, a lifelong passion, manifested in his early years. When he ran out of things to read at the small-town library, he read the entire encyclopedia from A-Z. In his teens, James moved to Jackson, AL, attended Jackson High School and discovered his love of knowledge and his calling to be an educator. He loved attending his 50th high school reunion. On his first day as a freshman at the University of Alabama he met the love of his life, Marsha Kilgore. He joined Army ROTC and upon graduation was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps. During the Vietnam Era he served 5 years on active duty with assignments in Germany and Korea (thus began a love of travel) and afterwards, 15 years in the Army Reserves. He greatly enjoyed his assignment to the Pentagon two weeks each summer. Starting his graduate degree while stationed in Germany, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Arkansas, studying under the professor who had initiated his love of Transportation and Logistics while at Alabama. His teaching career spanned over 40 years and included time at Arkansas, Auburn, Wichita State and John Carroll, and culminated with a Deanship at Rockhurst University in Kansas City. He found his home in Jesuit education. Many of his students referred to him as "Dr. D" and his dedication to their growth of knowledge and as human beings was unending. James' devotion to his family was foremost in his life. His 48-year marriage to Marsha was overflowing with joy and adventure. As an only child, he embraced his welcome into Marsha's family of four sisters and parents. He loved their daughter, Tracey, with all his heart. The additions of a son-in-law, Tim, and granddaughters, Willow and Zoe, multiplied his joy. The words his family heard every day were, "I love you" and "I'm proud of you." His love of travel with Marsha never ended, with visits to over 50 countries. He was an active member of Rotary 13 of KC and, upon retirement, James was fulfilled by volunteering with many non-profit organizations including Catholic Charities, Kingswood, Native Sons and Daughters of KC, HEDC, ArtsTech and Salvation Army. He especially loved his time teaching at Fu Jen University in Taiwan, and serving on the Board of Philpott in Cleveland, OH. James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Colombe. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Marsha; their daughter, Tracey; son-in-law, Tim; granddaughters, Willow and Zoe; sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. with visitation 9-10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Church of the Ascension, Overland Park, KS. Interment will take place at a future date in Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to your favorite University or the charity of your choice. To leave the family a message, please visit www.PenwellGabelOlathe.com.

Helen B. Bassett Obituary (Picture included)
September 30, 1922 ? November 18, 2016

Helen Bassett passed away on November 18, 2016, in Salem, Oregon, of complications from a broken hip. She was born on September 30, 1922, in Sierra Madre, California, the youngest child of Url and Nellie (Hollis) Fox, who had recently returned from several years of service as missionaries in India.

Helen met Jack Bassett at Pasadena City College, and her father married them in 1943. After World War II, they moved to Alaska so Jack could attend the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. Their adventures included building a dog team and a log cabin. They returned to Pasadena after their first son, Martin, was born, so their families could enjoy their grandson.

In 1949, they moved to southern Oregon, where they homesteaded outside Rogue River and then went into business with Jack?s parents in Grants Pass. They started a small drive-in called Larry?s, where Helen was the first carhop and the rest of the family took turns cooking as they learned the restaurant business. By 1960, the family had added another son, Scott, and Larry?s had added a coffee shop, dining room, banquet room, and?Helen?s pride and joy--the ?Kashmir Room,? featuring exotic décor, weekend entertainment, and dancing to Leo?s piano and organ. It was a popular 24-hour hangout and stopping point for locals and travelers alike.
In the 1970s, the restaurant was sold, and Helen managed the Hood River Inn. She became a trouble-shooter for The Royal Inns of America, covering Colorado, Texas, and California. Later she settled in Lake Oswego and managed Elks Clubs until she moved to Salem to be near her sons and their families. Helen was always very proud of her sons and grandchildren.

In retirement, Helen was a longtime resident of Southview Terrace and a volunteer at Salem Hospital. She loved visiting Pasadena, but also enjoyed opportunities to travel abroad with a childhood friend, visiting Europe and Asia, sailing on the QE2, and flying on the SST supersonic airplane. Well into her 80s, she hopped the bus into downtown Salem almost weekly to have her hair done and visit ?the girls? at JC Penney and Nordstrom.
Helen is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Martin and Rhonna Bassett, and Scott and Janet Bassett, of Salem, eight grandchildren and their families, and several nieces and nephews. Her friends and family members will not forget her gentle manner, sweet sense of humor, elegant style, compassion for those down on their luck, thoughtful gifts, and penny hunts for the kids. She will be sorely missed by all.

No services will be held. Contributions in her memory may be made to Marion/Polk Food Share, 1660 Salem Industrial Drive, Salem, 97301-0374, or Teen Challenge, 3060 Portland Rd NE, Salem, 97303.
