| 1761 | History of Siskiyou County, California Illustrated with Views of Residences D.J. Stewart & Co., Oakland, Cal 1881 William H. Sharp Includes portraits for both William and Augusta Now of Scott valley, was born in the Mohawk valley, New York, September 14, 1825, and at the age of two and one-half years his parents moved to St. Lawrence county, New York, and settled in Ogdensburg. William H., was the eighth of a family of nine children, seven of whom are still living. He was the son of Jacob and Sarah (Ranney) Sharp, his mother being a sister of General Ranney. William grew up in Ogdensburg, working at various trades, being ready, as he says, to do anything honorable for a livelihood. In 1846 he left the parental roof and went to Bellevue, Huron county, Ohio, and engaged in agricultural pursuits. In one year he married Miss Augusta Bassett, daughter of Doris Bassett, a native of New York. In 1849, hearing of the rich gold discoveries in California, he was thereby induced to dispose of his property, leave his family with friends and start via the emigrant trail of that day, for the coast, in company with nineteen others. They left Ohio in march and arrived at Hangtown (Placerville) in November. Here Mr. Sharp mined four weeks with his friends, then went to Sacramento and from there to Mariposa county. While returning some time after from a mining excursion to the Four Creek country, one of the party was killed by a bear. After settling in Mariposa again, Mr. Sharp engaged in teaming from Stockton. He ran six teams of from six to eight animals each, and followed this business till the fall of 1851, when he opened a corral. In the fall of ?51 he sold the corral and returned to the States for his wife and child, by the water route. Remaining one year in Ohio and not being content, he returned to California in 1853, across the plains with ox-teams. Upon his arrival he stopped at Feather river and at Stockton, where he engaged in farming one season. Not being satisfied with the San Joaquin valley, he saddled a mule and started a search of a better. Finding what he wanted in Siskiyou county he returned for his family, and came with them across the Scott mountains. He experienced the hardest trip he had ever made, and landed in Scott valley on Christmas morning of 1854. He brought with him chickens, pigs, and the first turkeys in the valley, for which last he was offered as high as fifty dollars per pair. He went at once to farming on the place he now owns, which at that time he rented. In 1856 he moved over to the place where Marsac now lives and put in about 500 acres of grain. Here nine of his family were sick at one time with typhoid fever, and his doctor?s fill was $1,500, but settled with Dr. Kinney of Fort James for $700 in the following year. He then moved to the east side of the valley and purchased the home where he now resides. Mrs. Sharp died in 1877. There were born to them ten children, viz.: Emily, Philip, Frederick, Augusta, Friedell, Eugene, Josephine, Frank, Walter, and William who is deceased. Mr. Sharp comes of a long-lived family. His mother is yet living and has numbered 103 years. His father died in Ogdensburg, New York, in 1830. Mr. Sharp?s education was limited to what he could learn at the common schools of his native county. He is a Baptist in religion and a Republican in politics. He is a member of Fort Jones Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and Mrs. Sharp is buried in the Odd Fellows cemetery, with a beautiful monument above her grave. Mr. Sharp has always been a hardworking, upright man and has won the good-will and esteem of a large acquaintance. | Sharp, William Henry (I31735)

| 1781 | Hunter Funeral Home and Hunter Memorial Park Don Bass of Hermitage, Tennessee October 21, 1937 ? December 25, 2021 HERMITAGE ? Don Bass, age 84, died peacefully at his home before dawn on Christmas morning. Don was born October 21, 1937 to Aaron and Ellen Frances Hudson Bass on a farm near Watertown, TN. His boyhood during the hard years of the Thirties and WWII laid the foundation for an unending belief in the importance of hard work and family. Don graduated from Watertown High School in 1955 and moved to Nashville with his new bride, the former Marie Hayes. Rising early, Don delivered milk in Donelson before becoming a State Farm Insurance Agent. Many of his first customers were the families that he had met delivering milk. His career was highly successful because of his friendly smile, cheerful optimism, and desire to work hard in the rapidly growing Donelson/Hermitage area. For several years Don was State Farm?s Top Sales Agent in the United States. On his best days, he would write 10-12 new policies each day. In the Eighties, Don built his own office building in Hermitage and later started an equally successful career as a real estate investor in Hermitage and Mt. Juliet. Don?s life encompassed far more than business. He was a member of the Donelson Lions Club for over 40 years; Lions International recognized him as a ?Melvin Jones Fellow,? the organization?s highest honor for community service. He served on the Community Board of Wilson Bank & Trust. A charter member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church, Don served as a Trustee and Treasurer for many years. In his later years, he was an active member of Donelson Presbyterian Church. Most of all, Don was happy when he was together with friends and family. He shared monthly lunches with his Watertown high school friends. He and his two brothers never missed being together on Christmas. He cherished his role as ?Pop? or ?Pops? for all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When Don met people, he routinely and unabashedly asked about their age, marital status, and homeplace---not just to collect data and make conversation, but because he was genuinely interested in everyone he met. In later years, Don was most at peace on the deck of his ?lake house in the woods? at Center Hill watching the water, the birds, and leaves shifting in the morning breeze. To anyone nearby, he would contentedly say ?I hope heaven is like this?. Don was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Marie Bass; daughter Debi King; great-grandchildren Samuel Clark and River King. He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter Donna Bell (Darrell); and step children Sandie Harper (Brooks), Nancy Harbolic (Bobby) and Greg Holzmeyer (Renee). Grandchildren are Heather Hayes (Matt), Stephen Bell (Sabrina), Jacob Bell (Talon), Tatum Clark (Herby), Josh (Heather), and Zach King (Nikki). Step grandchildren are Reese (Taylor Gonyea), Noah (Anna Cole), Lily, Aimee and Wilson Harper, Paul Holzmeyer (Mike), Rebecca Sells (Justin), and Hannah Danser (Dylan). His extended family includes his devoted brothers Ray Bass (Bonnie) and Bobby Bass (Sandra) and his sisters-in-law Ruth Loper, Linda Dickens (Clarence) and Mary Kaye Jordan (Louis) and son-in-law David King (Sonja). He is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many friends in the Hermitage community, State Farm, and Wilson Bank & Trust. A Celebration of Life will be January 7 at 1 p.m. at Hermitage Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Casner, Pastor at Donelson Presbyterian Church, officiating. The service will also be live streamed at www.HermitageHills.com. March 21, 2014 Ernest Guyton "Guy" Bass, Jr., died peacefully on March 21, 2014, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on January 26, 1934 in Vidalia, Georgia to Margaret Louise Wilson and Ernest Guyton Bass, Sr., and the family moved to south Florida when Guy was six months old. Guy graduated from Fort Lauderdale High in 1951 where he was a proud "Flying L" football player and a member of the marching band. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1955, and remained an avid Gator fan throughout his life. Guy was married to his high school sweetheart, Jeanne Grace DeShields for 59 years. They were inseparable until his disease demanded special care. At the University of Florida Guy majored in Real Estate, one of the first such programs in the country. Guy was an extremely successful Realtor, known for his integrity and his willingness to mentor those coming into the business. At age 44 he was elected as the President of the Florida Association of Realtors, and at the time he was the youngest person ever to fill that office. Guy relished being a Realtor, and owned a real estate firm for fifty-five years. He gave his time proudly and tirelessly and served on countless boards, including the SunTrust Board (over 40 years), the Fort Lauderdale Planning and Zoning Board (17 years), the Broward Community College Board of Directors (President, 1989), and the Girl Scouts of America Board. He was named one of five outstanding young men in 1967 by the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. Guy was a great fisherman, loved both deep sea and fresh water fishing, and was known for his ability to find the fish long before the invention of sonar fishfinders. He fished in Florida as well as in the North Carolina mountains where his family had a cottage in Balsam. Guy and his family enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado with friends. He loved tennis and once was written up in the city paper for lasting 109 games to defeat his opponent and win his class in the city tournament. Such persistence and determination marked his style, and he was always up for a challenge. His favorite hobby was flying a private plane; nothing made him happier. Guy was a member and served on the board of the Lauderdale Yacht Club and was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Trustee. | 1794 | In the Care of Nickerson Funeral Home Rodolphe ?Jerry? Gerald Bessette Jr. June 20, 1947 ? January 1, 2022 WELLFLEET - Jerry Bessette was born on June 20th, 1947, in Acushnet, MA. He died peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on January 1, 2022, surrounded by his wife and daughters after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean, his three daughters, Michelle (Charles) Connors, Aime Bessette (Peter Lennon), and Brooke (TJ) Shea. He leaves five grandchildren, Alex, Meghan, Campbell, Mackenzie and Brad, and his two dogs Cappy and Baxter. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen O?Brien and nephews Michael and Matthew. Jerry washed ashore and settled in Wellfleet permanently in 1968. While Jerry was indeed a ?wash ashore?, he was born with the salt of the Cape running through his veins. His salty nature meant he always spoke his mind, albeit with quick wit and humor. He was an amazing entertainer and storyteller. Stopping to talk to Jerry meant you were typically late for your next engagement, and you were likely to hear the same story more than once. Jerry made a living in Wellfleet as sole proprietor of Briarmead Building and Wellfleet Mobil until he retired in 2018. He gave many Wellfleet kids their first paying job, teaching them what hard work looked like. While he gave so many their first chance, he gave others many chances in life. He was always willing to help someone in need. Jerry could frequently be found at the pier with his Labrador riding shotgun in the jeep. He so loved his boys Rudder and Baxter. He had a deep love of fishing. His ritual was always to release the first catch of the year. May he find calm breezes and tight lines. A celebration of Jerry?s life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 3-6 pm at the Chequessett Yacht & Country Club, 680 Chequessett Neck Rd., Wellfleet. Donations in Jerry?s honor can be made to the Wellfleet Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 442 Wellfleet, MA 02667. | Bessette, Rdolphe Gerald Jr. (I19390)

| 1798 | J. Foster Phillips Funeral Home Inc. Pastor Doris Bass October 5, 1935 ? December 26, 2025 On Friday, December 26, 2025, the earth lost an iconic woman of virtue, a shepherding mother, a humble servant, and crowned jewel, and Heaven gained a precious soul. The most beloved Pastor Doris Bass transitioned from this life and was called from her labor to reward. Her journey began on October 5, 1935, when Doris (Mamie) was born to Martha Ann Donald in Johnston County, North Carolina. Doris was blessed to be raised by Mallie and Nettie Richardson. Growing up, Doris was favored by the love of her Richardson and Scarboro siblings: Esther, Willie, David (Boyee), Nathan, Robert, James, Luther, Wilbert, Roosevelt, Joseph, Rodney, Carolyn, Coy, Ercell, John, Arthur, and Ida Mae; all of whom she maintained close bonds. She was educated in Zebulon school system, and the journey led her to New York City in the 1950s. As the wife of Merlin Bass, Jr. and mother to Cynthia (Gail), Gloria, Myrnia (Pearl), Merlin (Butch), Jerry, and Audrey she established a legacy of love that extended to her thirteen grandchildren: Lamont, Crystal, Demetris, Reginald Jr., Larry Jr., Merlin IV, Yolanda, Jahmar, Malik, Callia, Brittany, Zaira, and Jordyn; great-grandchildren, spiritual children, nieces, nephews and a host of family-friends. Doris was well known for being caring and feeding everyone. She opened her home to anyone in need of a safe haven. Her home was her castle where she entertained family and friends, enjoyed caring for her plants, cooking special dishes, and ?coffee time conversations.? Doris Bass was raised in a Christian home, and her journey would lead her into ministry. In the 1980s at Tabernacle of Blessings in St. Albans, Queens, under the late Rev. Clifton E. Durham, Doris carried multiple responsibilities, including noonday prayer, kitchen operations, and hospitality, playing a key role in building the small but growing ministry. During this time, her spiritual hunger deepened, and she recognized God?s call on her life. This calling was affirmed when she was licensed as an evangelist in the summer of 1984. She remained a faithful servant at Tabernacle of Blessings until its dissolution in the late 1980s, and later continued ministry service at Maranatha Tabernacle under Dr. James C. Blocker, where she served as a nurse, aide, and spiritual encourager to the congregation. In 1998, the next destination on her journey was Fountain of Praise under the leadership of Pastor Dorothy Hyman, where Evangelist Bass gained renewed strength and perspective in ministry. Before relocating in 2004, Pastor Hyman released Bass to begin her own pastoral work. That same year, God impressed a clear vision upon her, leading to the start of a small Friday night Bible study and, soon after, the launch of Living Praise Tabernacle. The church held its first Sunday morning service on June 28, 2004, and in September of that year, Doris Bass was officially ordained and installed as pastor of the Living Praise Tabernacle. Her ordination, officiated by Rev. Durham was a full-circle moment and witnessed by fellow clergy, marking the fulfillment of her call after decades of faithful service. Pastor Bass served Living Praise (now The Living Church) until her health declined. Although her journey was not always easy, Doris Bass was graced for her journey. It was a journey that thrust her into Christian service. It was a journey that birthed compassion for the hungry and the homeless. It was a journey that caused her kind heart to share encouraging words that would stand through tough times. It was a journey that caused her to endure hardness as a good soldier. We are thankful that we are made better because of her witness and her journey. | Donald, Doris (I8461)
