Deaths

Bassett ? March 19, at Sunville House, Limerick, George William Bassett, J.P., aged 82 years. Funeral to St. Munchin?s Church on Tuesday morning at 10 o?clock.

Limerick Chronicle
March 20, 1900
Death Of Mr. George W. Bassett, J.P.
We regret to announce the death of an old and respected citizen, Mr. George William Bassett, J.P, who passed away at his residence, Sunville House, Thomondgate, on yesterday at the ripe age of 82 years. The deceased gentleman was for a long span of years a prominent and popular figure in municipal life. A native of the Castle Ward, in which his late residence is situate, he represented that constituency for many years in the old Corporation, and also at the Poor Law Board, in both of which his excellent business capacity and judgement had due weight, while his affable and kindly nature won for him the respected esteem of all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He was also a Fishery Conservator, and ex-officio member of the Nenagh Board of Guardians, a Grand Juror of the County Tipperary, where he possessed considerable property and he held the Commission of the Peace for Tipperary and Limerick. He frequently attended Newport Petty Sessions, and while his health permitted was most regular occupant of the city bench. For the past few years, however, Mr. Bassett had retired into private life. It may be added that he was the oldest surviving member of the Masonic body in Limerick, having been Worshipful Master of Lodge 73 so far back as 1855. In church matters he took an active interest, and had been a member of the Select Vestry of St. Mary’s Cathedral down to 1894, since which time he has been in delicate health. The funeral will for St. Munchin’s Church on Thursday morning at ten o’clock.

John Burt McKeever (Picture included)
March 11, 1939 ? June 8, 2020

John Burt McKeever was born March 11, 1939 in Muncie, IN to Harold and Margaret McKeever. He enjoyed being a kid in Muncie, roaming the town on his bike and playing sports until dark. His family and childhood friends continued to be an important part of his life right up to the end. Once a Bearcat, always a Bearcat!
College days were spent at Earlham College in Richmond, IN, leading to a degree in Economics. After college he enlisted before he would have been drafted in the army. Fort Polk was not his favorite place, but he was a good soldier and was honorably discharged after six years. He hitchhiked to San Francisco and found work at Union Carbide. That work transferred him to Portland, OR and Salt Lake City, UT. Salt Lake was a wonderful place to live so John chose to quit his job and work for Wasatch Service & Supply for four years before starting his own Manufacturer's Rep business. His days in Salt Lake lasted 23 years and provided many wonderful memories and life-long friends.
In 1991, it was beneficial for John to move to Denver and open a branch of his business there. The move was a good one and gave him the chance to make many more good friends. About 13 years after moving to Denver, John experienced kidney failure and was forced to retire. In 2005, at age 66, John had the unbelievable good fortune to receive a kidney transplant from a 24-year old who had died in an automobile accident in New York. At the time of death, that kidney was still going strong. John very much wanted to donate the kidney to someone else so they could be given additional years of life, but he found out than an organ can be transplanted only once. It was a mixed blessing because John wanted to die at home, and he would not have been able to do that if he had been able to donate his transplanted kidney. He was always extremely grateful to the donor's family for their gift that added fifteen years to his life.
John was always an exceedingly kind and empathetic person. His parting wish would be for everyone to try to be a little kinder and more considerate of others, showing compassion for all.
John died peacefully at home of prostate cancer on June 8, 2020. He is survived by Suzy, his wife of 52 years. At his request, there will not be a service.

Jean Gottula ?Jeanne? Inskeep (1965-2017) (Pictures included)

Jean "Jeanne" Gottula Inskeep, 51, passed away on March 31, 2017, in Las Vegas, as a result of complications from Lupus, from which she had suffered since 1982. Jeanne was born on August 3, 1965, in Lincoln, Neb., as the third child and second daughter of Larry and Ginger Bassett Gottula.

As a young child, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and later in her teens, she received the diagnosis of Lupus. These illnesses presented lifelong challenges. Yet, she had a smile and laugh that warmed the hearts of those around her. Her family moved to Ankeny in 1973, where she attended Ankeny schools from third grade through graduation in 1983. Throughout junior high and high school, she played several musical instruments, but focused on the trumpet. She played in the concert, jazz and marching bands at Ankeny High School.

She studied accounting and computer applications at community college. After finishing the program, she took a position as a project coordinator for a construction company working on the Hoover Dam in Nevada. She also worked in real estate management and as an office manager.

Always good at numbers and games, Jeanne enjoyed playing Blackjack and has several tournament wins to her name. An avid pet owner, she rescued several cats and dogs and found homes for more kittens than her husband and friends can count.

Rick provided Jeanne with unwavering love and affection. During the month Jeanne was hospitalized in the ICU and through her week-long stay in hospice, Rick stayed by her side. He decorated her room with roses from their garden and brought her Anatolian Shepherd rescue dog, Hooch, for one last visit to say goodbye.

Jeanne leaves behind her loving husband, Rick, her children: Tyler (Lindsey) Eason and Jenna Eason; four grandchildren: Taylor, Alexander, Vivienne and Paxton. She is survived by her father, Larry Gottula, of Verdi, Nevada; sisters? Gordon Grosvenor Gatrell, 93, passed away Monday, September 26, surrounded by his family. Gordon was born February 3, 1923, to Cyrus Grosvenor Gatrell and Lois Knight Bassett Gatrell. Raised in Salt Lake City, Gordon was a proud alumnus of Hamilton School and West High School.
In September 1942, Gordon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as an aircraft mechanic in the South West Pacific from February 1944 to June 1945, including through the consolidation of the Solomon Islands and the Battles of Leyte and Luzon. Gordon also served in the Korean area from November 1950 to September 1951.
In fall 1946, Gordon met Nadene Johnson on a blind date; they were married at Memory Grove's Memorial House on December 5, 1947, in a ceremony broadcast on KDYL radio. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon proudly served in a variety of church callings, including counselor in the bishopric and two local service missions with Nadene. He was especially devoted to his most recent calling, serving as ward clerk into his 90s.

Bob Claude Bartel
1954 ? 2021

Bob Claude Bartel was born in San Francisco on Aug 3, 1954 to Claude Clarence Bartel and Abbie Bassett and passed away in his home of thirty-nine years in Sandy, Utah on Aug 16, 2021.

Bob got his pilot's license before he got his driver's license. His eyes kept him out of the Air Force and went to Washington State before serving an LDS mission in Alaska. Upon his return from the Arctic, he went to BYU with his sister Candice and met and proposed to Kathryn Spencer after a motorcycle ride to Bridal Veil Falls. (Yes. He really did ride a motorcycle.)

Bob and Kathy had five children before adopting Nickolai and Natasha from Russia.

Bob graduated in accounting, but found that boring, so he changed careers to do something more boring ? programing software. In his career he built a few companies and was a successful businessman traveling the entire United States and as far as India. But none would think of Bob as a businessman, CEO, or farmer, among all, he was a family man and father. This and his love for his Savior Jesus Christ were his only real passions.

He may not have been able to dunk a basketball, but he was his boys' soccer coach, baseball coach, basketball, and racquetball coach. He was a great coach and scout leader. He loved his season tickets to BYU ? back when they were good. He played racquetball and was an avid runner ? turned biker ? turned hiker ? turned walker. His family enjoyed waiting for him at the finish line when he ran a marathon, but he preferred actually running with them at the Disney World Half Marathon.

He raised his children in the gospel and led his family as a patriarch. He taught his children to seek Christ. He will be known most for his dad jokes ? his were the best ? or the worst ? depends on how you look at it.

All his business dividends went to his family. He enjoyed four wheeling, boating, and vacations with his family. Lake Powell trips ? especially houseboat trips ? were his favorite. He would drive the boat while his family tubed, wakeboarded, and skied. The family may have lost a number of ropes under his watch. The boat may have been pulled back to the marina more than two occasions. But he only hit a sand bar and wrecked the prop twice, but who doesn't when you're on the lake that long? (And there was only one boating related ER trip?and it was Brett so it pretty much didn't count.)

Bob could pack the tents and sleeping bags for a camp; the skis, poles, gloves, and coats for the slopes; the wakeboards, skis, rope, and life jackets for the lake; just don't ask him to pack a pinata ? the kids will be disappointed.

He did not have luck with vehicles ? whether it was a refurbished "Ding-Click" van that sang to itself, a boat that wouldn't start, or a wakeboarding boat that wouldn't pull a wakeboarder. Once you got to a Bartel vacation, it was an adventure. No one could plan a better Disney trip. It may have been a stressed induced pandemonium requiring a vacation afterwards, but when the gates to the park opened, he knew which rides to run to that allowed for the most packed day as possible ... it's 58 ? 35 rides ? 19 water slides ? 3 monorails ? 1 ferry boat.

He looked forward to family vacations, but also traveling alone with his wife. He had to. They needed to get some peace away from seven, loud, and obnoxious kids. He took her to the Caribbean Islands, Europe, Hawaii, and the Holy Land.

He loved his family sooooo much, he wanted Ben and Bryce to work for him ? or Bryce wanted Bob to work for him ? it was never all that clear. The uncertainty never really resolved so he left to farm with Bryan.

Much of his life was spent with his sons, but he would drop anything in the world to be with Britany?his daddy's little girl.

His life was one of service. The only thing he loved more than having family over for dinner was cleaning up their plates and doing the dishes before they were done eating. The dishes were always clean as long as Bob was home.

Lose a job, visiting the US, need a place to stay? Count was lost at how many people in need were taken into his home. He only regretted it once. (Everyone thought she was cray cray.)

He and Kathy spent their free time serving as service missionaries in the Rose Park 2 ward and community. He was too old to move furniture, but did it anyway and continued to give everything he could. He lived his life trying to consecrate it to the service of God.

Bob is survived by his wife of forty-three years Kathryn Spencer; his son, Brett and his children Riley, Jada, and Bradley with their mom Jessica; his son, Benjamin and his wife Marie with their children Miles, Ethan, Sofie, Cara, and Luke; his daughter, Britany and her husband Tyler with their children Zachary, Jack, and Olivia; his son, Bryce and his wife Megan with their children Shelby, Libby, and Samuel; his son, Bryan and his wife Jessica; his son Nikolai; his daughter Natasha; and his sister Candice and her husband Nolan.

A viewing will be held at 6-8pm on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121. Another viewing will be held at 12:00-12:30pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Sandy Granite Stake Center, 2535 Newcastle Dr, Sandy, UT 84093. The funeral will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Sandy Granite Stake Center, 2535 Newcastle Dr, Sandy, UT 84093.

Died

At the residence of John B. Webb, in Chowan county, on Thursday the 22d day of April, 1858, sister Mary Bass, daughter of the late John Bass, in her 45th year of her age. She had been afflicted for several years with consumption, but no confined until about three month before her death. Though, notwithstanding her sufferings, which cannot be described, she bore them with that degree of Christian meekness that should ever characterize those who profess to follow that Jesus who suffered so much for us. Sister Bass was one of the number that profess hope in Christ during the revival of 1833, and united with the church at Ballard?s Bridge, then under the care of Elder Miles Welch ? from which she was dismissed, and became one of the constituent of the church at Rockahock in 1835. In her death the church has lost one of its most useful members as a sister. She leaves a lonely sister, together with two brothers and a number of dear friends, to mourn their loss, though they all can cherish a good hope that their loss is her eternal gain.

In Memory of Margaret Annie Bassett
December 31, 1930 ? September 14, 2017

Margaret Bassett passed away on September 14, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Margaret (Tubman) Bassett was born on Tubman Rd. in Brewster the daughter of Myron and Dorothy Tubman. She graduated Orleans H.S. and married her sweetheart Roland Bassett. Margaret and Roland were married for 63 years until Roland's passing in 2012. Having lost the love of her life, Margaret's sorrow was overwhelming. Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves her 5 children: Darlene Bassett, Karen Dias and her husband Daniel, sons Roland Bassett, Jr. and his wife Holly, Russell and his wife Jane, Roger and his wife Nell. Her wonderful life blessed her with 16 grandchildren, James and Joel Stoneton, Shelly, Meghan, and Andrew Dias, Jennifer, Rebecca, Roland III, Isaiah, Rachel, and Jacob, Russell Jr., Randall, and Jessica, Kate, and Riley. In addition she was fortunate to have 20 great grandchildren: Abigail, Juliette, Haley, Kelsey, Landon, Lila, Michael, Justin, Francis, Roland IV, Lakota, Miles, Lucas, Sophie, Jacob, Molly, Joshua, Brody, Braxton, and Zoey.

She was a quiet soul and a hard worker. She attended to the accounting for Brewster Ice, managed the park store at Nickerson for many summers, and volunteered at the Brewster Elementary library as she truly loved children. She was a member of the Brewster Baptist Church for over 60 years. She taught Sunday school, worked diligently to manage and preserve the children's church library, worked every month to prepare, print, and mail out the church newsletter, prepared the church pews for every Sunday's church service, and helped out wherever she was needed. She was appropriately named the church mouse for all her years of selfless dedication. She enjoyed making caramel apples for the family at Halloween and pumpkin bread for the holidays.

She was a kind person, a genuine friend, and we will miss her warm smile. She will rest in peace beside her husband Roland at the Brewster Memorial Cemetery.

Stephen Bassett, October 30, 2025

Stephen F. Bassett, age 75, of Onset Massachusetts, born and raised in Middleboro, affectionately known as ?Grandpoozle?, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025.
Devoted husband to Edie (Greene) Bassett for 37 years, cherished son of the late Willam ?Bud? Bassett and Betty (Wright) Days, step-son of Herbert ?Sandy? Days, loving brother of Linda (Bassett) DeArruda and her husband John of Raynham, Julianne (Bassett) Stickle and her husband Michael of Indiana, Tina Bassett of Indiana, and nephew of Nancy Whynot of Virginia. Proud father of Peter Bassett and his wife Melissa of Middleboro, Allison (Greene) Miskiv and her husband Mike of Mashpee, Jaimee Greene and Joseph Castelo of New Bedford, Syretta Bassett of Florida, Cale Bassett of Pittsfield, Kara (Bassett) Ransom and her husband Michael of New Bedford, Billee (Bassett) Wright and her husband Kenneth of New Bedford, Nick Bassett and his wife Katelyn of Wareham, Moriah Bassett and her partner Tori of Plymouth, and 28 beloved grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Steve was a long-time Patriots and Bruins fan who you would frequently find lounging on the couch content munching a box of cookies with big glass of milk or with some scratch tickets chasing his million-dollar dream. He had a tremendous work ethic, without complaint, rarely missing a day. He was the classic grumpy old man although with a heart far bigger than he would ever admit, easily driven nuts by kids running through the house, yet secretly delighted by the chaos he pretended to be annoyed by. He leaves us with stories to laugh about, lessons to live by, and a love that will echo long after the grumbling has gone quiet. We will miss his stubbornness, the sight of him relaxing in his favorite spot, and the comfort of knowing he was always there. We promise to keep the noise down and stay ?in or out?.
Rest easy old man.
A memorial service will be held on November 24th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St, New Bedford. A gathering will follow at the Middleboro Elks from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. The family asks that you honor him by spending time with those you love or sharing a story that keeps his memory alive.
