46564 | The year 1850 saw the breaking up of the farm home of Lemuel and Julia Bassett, and the beginning for themselves of the sons Bennett and Jared. The time came when the two brothers must decide on their farms. The roadway divided their father's farm into nearly equal parts; the upper tract was the better land, but there was no good house on it. Which one was to have the upper farm and which the lower? They settled the matter by "drawing cuts", and the lower farm fell to Bennett. Jared bought only 70 acres on the start, paying $50 per acre. Jared Beardsley Bassett (brother of Bennett Bassett) was married to Mary Wheeler whose father was Nathan Beech Wheeler. Bennett Basset (brother of Jared Beardsley Bassett) was married to Matilda Wheeler whose father was Lyman Wheeler. 46592 | Their farm came from Elizabeth's father and mother. They were married and raised a family of eleven children, 5 boys and 6 girls. They were the grandparents of John W. Adkins. William inherited a femals slave, Gatty, from his father. The home of William and Betsey Adkins was a two-story structure, large enough to raise a large family. The house was built in 1859. It was rumored that slaves were kept in the dark bedroom. They did own slaves, presumably three, and they lived in a small dwelling behing the kitchen. Per the 1860 census, William and Betsey had one black field hand, one maid/servant in the house, and a young black boy. After the Civil War, in 1870, William Adkins had a 15-year-old black male named John who worked on this farm, a 13-year-old black female named Mary who was a domestic servant, and a 10-year-old black male named Elijah who worked on his farm. They were Gatty's children and they all had the Adkins surname. The slaves lived on at the the home after they were freed and were buried on the farm in the Adkins burial plot. | Adkins, William Sampson (P78)

46598 | Theodore D. Bass Obituary Thomasville, North Carolina August 4, 2018 Theodore Delano Bass Sr. was born 10/20/1934 to Emma Lou and Nicodemus Bass in North Carolina. He died suddenly and instantly Friday evening at 10:17 pm after being struck by a car crossing the street in Thomasville. He served in the military for many years and married his lovely wife Helen Hughes Bass in the early 50â??s. They traveled the world and started a family that rapidly grew over the next 10 years. These 5 wonderful children were born all over the world. Not a dull moment was had by anyone who was graced by his presence. Always the funny comedian, sarcastic, loud one in the room. He was the middle child, preceded in death by his older brother Billy Gray several years ago, his living beloved sister in law Frances and their 5 daughters, Cathy, Patty, Debbie, Cheri and Bethany. He also leaves behind his sister Kandye Bass, niece Danielle Matthews and his amazing daughters he adored (in his own way) Adrienne Dale (and husband Ricky Lambert), Marsha Lou Bass, Suzanna Bass Cumming, and of course his favorite and only son Theodore Delano Bass, Jr. (Teddy) and Christye Lynne preceded his death four years ago. Grandchildren: Ricky Dale and Amy Lambert, Jessica & Bryan Brown, Bobby and Stephanie Wade, Kaitlyn and Billy Ratliff, Justin Hardin, Jess Garner and Mary Adkins, Seth Alan and Brooke Cumming and Theodore David Bass. Great grandchildren: Easton and Dalton Lambert, Gavin, Gabriella and Gentry Brown, Jaxton Leon and Kolton Gene Wade, Carmen, Ian, Adalynne and Harper Ratliff. He lived a full life, by far wasnâ??t perfect by most standards but parented the only way he knew how and for that we are grateful. He was known by many, by many names Theodore, Ted, Sam, Daddy, Grandpa Ted, Pawpaw, and a few which cannot be mentioned, and yes they all got his attention when he had his hearing aids in and turned up to 100% and not off!! He leaves us all with fond, funny and foul memories leaving no one out of harms way from his delivery, but in almost all cases meaning NO harm. Those who really knew him understood in the depths of his heart he meant well and loved his family. May his heart, mind and soul finally be at peace as he now takes flight to another dimension of life. In the flesh we will miss him, but trusting in God's grace may his legacy of love and passion for life and the good memories live on in each of us forever and ever. 46599 | Theodore Sheldon Bassett Bassett, Theodore Sheldon, manufacturer, vice-president of the Birmingham Iron Foundry of Derby, president of the United States Rubber Reclaiming Works, and formerly treasurer of the Bassett Corset Company of Derby, was born in Birmingham, now Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut, April 26th, 1839. His parents were Sheldon and Harriet Hull Bassett. His father was a manufacturer who held the important position of president of the Birmingham Iron Foundry and was also judge of probate of the town of Derby. His mother was one of those splendid New England mothers whose influence was strongly for good in every particular. As he was brought up in a small country town Theodore Bassett had plenty of leisure for reading and study and he enjoyed both. He kept in touch with current events by intelligent and systematic reading of the newspapers and did a great deal of broad, general reading among many lines of learning. His actual schooling was confined to that offered by the local public schools and a few terms at boarding school. When he reached the age of sixteen, that is in 1855, Theodore S. Bassett went to New York to work as a clerk. Since reaching his mature manhood he has been engaged in the manufacturing business and the success he has earned as a manufacturer is proved by the influential position he holds in the concern with which he is so closely identified. He is vice-president of the Birmingham Iron Foundry of Derby, president of the United States Rubber Reclaiming Works, and was for some time treasurer of the Bassett Corset Company of Derby. In public affairs Mr. Bassett has also been active and prominent. From 1888 to 1892 he was postmaster of Derby. He was at one time treasurer of the town of Derby and of the borough of Derby, and is a member of the local board of trade. Mr. Bassett is a thirty-second degree Mason, member of the Algonquin and Calumet Clugs of Bridgeport and of the Republican Club of New York. For recreation he enjoys driving and automobiling. His home is Fort Trumbull Beach, Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut. On April 26th, 1860, Mr. Bassett married Miss Caroline Wells, of New York City, who died at their Milford home in January, 1907. Of their three children, Caroline W., Harmon S., and Theodore Jr., but one, the last named, is living. 1880 Federal Census of Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut Theodore Bassett - 41 - M - CT-CT-CT - Head - Prop.
