    James Alexander Bass, Jr., 80, of Long Avenue, died Friday, December 7, 2012. He was born in Person County, son of the late James Alexander Bass, Sr. and Josephine Holeman Bass.
    He was preceded in death by his wife Anne Moore Bass.
    Mr. Bass was a retired salesman and a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean conflict. Mr. Bass was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
    Mr. Bass is survived by his son Alex Bass, III and wife Misti of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; daughter Carol B. Painter of Roxboro; brother Robert E. Bass of High Point; four grandchildren Wesley Alexander Woodfin, Thierry "Kip" Painter, Brandon Bass & Nathan Bass.
    Graveside memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 at Burchwood Cemetery.

    Dies at Home in Mayesville After 4 Months Illness - Rites Today
    Sumter - January 29 - (Special) - Fleetwood Jennings Bass, 76, died at his home east of Sumter this morning after an illness of four months.
    Surviving are the following children: F.J. Bass, Jr., Bluefield, Virginia; Alex Bass, Danville, Virginia; Miss Catherine Bass and Mrs. J. W. Shaw, Jr., of Sumter; Miss Lois Bass, Mayesville; Pfc. Robert E. Bass, USA in Sicily; Tech. Sgt. James Bass, in England; three brothers, J.E. Bass, Richmond; J.C. and W.H. Bass, South Boston, Virginia, and one half-brother, E.C. Brandon, South Boston, Virginia.
    Mr. Bass was born in Richmond and moved here 40 years ago and had been been engaged in farming. He was a member of the Mayesville Baptist Church and the Bible class of the First Baptist Church, Sumter.
    Funeral services will be held at the residence on the Mayesville Road at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon with interment in the Mayesville Cemetery.
    (Note - "Half-brother" is a reference to the husband of his sister, Emma Irene Brandon.)
