Mrs. Jean Humphrey Passed Away Suddenly Thursday

Mrs. Clarency Humphrey passed away Thursday evening after a two days illness, ptomaine poison being the cause of her demise.

Jean Pettigrew Bassett, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Bassett, of this city, was born near Madrid, Boone Co., Iowa, August 22, 1878 and when thirteen years of age she, with her parents, moved on a farm south of Rock Falls, later moving into this city where they have since made their home.

She was educated in the Rock Falls school, a faithful member of the M.E.church, and in her passing away, her friends have lost a kind an true woman.

On March 15, 1900, she was united in marriage to Clarence Humphrey at the Methodist parsonage in Sterling by the Rev. Harkness, and practically all their married life was spent in this city.

To this union eight children were born, all of whom are living, and will miss a mother's love. They are hardly old enough to realize they have lost their best friend on earth.

The children are as follows: Myrtle, who will soon be fifteen, Viola, 13, Clarence, 12, Emma, 10, Jessie, 8, Blanche, 5, George, 2 and baby Ethel (3 months). She also leaves her heart broken husband, her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.G. Bassett, and the following brothers and sisters, who will mourn her death: Mrs. Maggie Stevens, Mrs. Grace Scott, Mrs. Emma Smith and Miss Fannie Bassett, and Milton of Oskalosa, Ia., and Harry and George of this city.

The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the late home. The Rev. L.B. Lott, pastor of the Methodist Church will have charge of the services. Interment will be in the Rock Falls cemetery.
