    Frank Bass Sr. Dies

    Frank Paul Bass, Sr., 62, a native and life long resident of Biloxi died yesterday afternoon at his home, 311 East Howard avenue. He was a painting contactor and was well known throughout the city. He was president of the local painters' untion. He was the husband of Mrs. Rose Bass, president of the Biloxi Review Woman's Benefit Association and leaves seven children, Vincent Bass of New Orleans, Mrs. Irene Gerard of New Orleans, and Misses Julia and Agnes Bass of Biloxi; Frank, Charles and Roy Bass of Biloxi, and one sister, Mrs. M. J. Banks of Biloxi. He had been ill but three weeks. The funeral will be held this afternoon with services at the home, Church of the Nativity and Biloxi cemetery by Rev. Father Peter Keenan.

    Aged Biloxian Takes A Wife
    Vincent Bass, 94 Years, Weds New Orleans Woman
    Bridegroom Said to Be Wealthy
    Biloxi, April 10 - Vincent Bass, a wealthy Biloxian, who is 94 years old, went to New Orleans yesterday accompanied by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frank Bass, and he returned a benedict. He was married to Miss Alvena Commett in New Orleans and the bride and bridegroom returned to Biloxi last night and went to the home of Mr. Bass at 311 East Howard Avenue.
    Mr. Bass’ first wife died some years ago, and despite his advanced age, Mr. Bass found life very lonesome without a partner.

    Vincent Bass Is Claimed By Death At Ripe Old Age
    Respected Citizen Was Ninety-Seven Years Old At Time Of His Death
    Which Occurred Sunday
    Resident Of Biloxi For Last Sixty-Eight Years
    Is Survived by Son, Frank P. Bass, and Daughter, Mrs. M.J. Banks,
    His Widow and Nine Grandchildren
    Funeral Tomorrow Afternoon
    Biloxi, August 23 - After a long and active life Vincent Bass, one of Biloxi’s oldest and most respected citizens, passed away at his residence at 311 East Howard Avenue last night at 6 o’clock.
    The end came peacefully while the aged man was surrounded by loved ones and friends. Mr. Bass was 97 years, four months and nineteen days old, having been born on April 3, 1818.
    LIVING IN TWO CENTURIES
    Having lived in two centuries this strong old man had witnessed some of the most stirring events that have transpired for centuries. He had always lived an active life until about twenty years ago, when he retired, since which time he had enjoyed the fruits of his labors when he was younger and stronger.
    Mr. Bass was born in Di Trani, Italy, but came to the United States when yet a young man, settling in Boston, Massachusetts. He lived but four years in the New England states, removing after this short residence to the South. He had been a resident of Biloxi for sixty-eight years when taken by death.
    ALWAYS STRONG
    Mr. Bass had always enjoyed a remarkably healthful life until about a year ago when the effects of his age began to tell on him. The ailment which finally resulted in his death began to show about one year ago.
    Mr. Bass is survived by his widow and one son and one daughter, all of whom are residents of Biloxi, and nine grandchildren. He was married three times. His second wife, the mother of his son and daughter, who was Miss Bridget Clancey before her marriage to Mr. Bass, was a native of Ireland. She died in Biloxi on February 19, 1910.
    The grandchildren who survive Mr. Bass are Vincent P., Irene, Agnes, Julia, Frank, Charles and Roy Bass, and Walter Nixon and Johnnie Banks, the last named two being the children of Mr. Bass’ daughter, Mrs. Irene Banks, wife of M.J. Banks, of Biloxi. His son is Frank P. Bass, a well-known citizen of Biloxi.
    MEMBER OF CATHOLIC CHURCH
    Mr. Bass was a member of the Church of the Nativity of this city. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, who will assist at the obsequies.
    The funeral will take place from the residence under the auspices of the Church of the Nativity tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock and the interment will be in the Biloxi cemetery.
