    Dr. Marion B. Bassett
    Bassett - Dr. Marion B. Bassett, 82, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert B. Bassett, daughter Lani B. Redington (Mal) of Jacksonville, Florida, and sons Bobby Bassett (Bete) of Ridgeland, Mississippi and David Bassett of Canton, Texas, and four grandsons, Blair B. Redington of Jacksonville, Florida; Seth Bassett of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Ross Bassett of Ridgeland, Mississippi; and Nathan Bassett of Canton, Texas.
    Dr. Bassett was born December 26, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Carl A. and Ruth Harlan Blumer. She was a 1941 graduate of Millvale High School in Millvale, Pennsylvania. She received her RN from Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her BSRN from the University of Mississippi, her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama, and her Doctorate of Education from the University of Alabama. She taught at the University of Mississippi School of Nursing and was the founding Dean of the Mississippi College School of Nursing. She retired from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing in 1979 where she was the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. Dr. Bassett was very involved with her community. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Pilot Club of Clinton, President of the Mississippi Nurses Association from 1977-1979, docent at the Mississippi Museum of Art and the Jackson Zoological Park, a member of the DAR and a long time member of Alta Woods Presbyterian Church.
    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2006, at the chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, 350 High Street, Jackson, Mississippi with burial at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.     Dr. Marion B. Bassett, 82, passed away April 8 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness.
    Services were April 13 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson with burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.
    Dr. Bassett was born December 26, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her BSRN from the University of Mississippi, her master of science in nursing from the University of Alabama, and her doctorate of education from the University of Alabama.
    She taught at the University of Mississippi School of Nursing and was the founding dean of the Mississippi College School of Nursing. She retired from the University School of Nursing in 1979, where she was the associate dean for undergraduate studies.
    Dr. Bassett was very involved with her community.
