\nThomas Bassett Died Saturday<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thomas Bassett, 77 of 229 E. Arch St. died Saturday. He was born in Cornwall, England, August 19, 1877 and came to the United States in 1902 settling in the Copper Country where he worked in the mines.<\/p>\n
He later moved to Minnesota with his family where he farmed for many years before moving to Ironwood. He retired in 1946.<\/p>\n
Mr. Bassett is survived by his wife, six children, Mrs. Forest Dykeman of Milwaukee, Mrs. Lawrence Barrett of Flint, Mrs. Whyle Wilcox of Richmond, Va., MRs. Wilfred Mattson of Flint, Thomas Bassett Jr. of Ironwood and John Lester Bassett of Jackson, two sisters, Mabel Bassett of England and Mrs. Joseph Best of Crosby Minn., 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wesley Methodist Church. The Rev. William N. Mertz will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.<\/p>\n
The Chappell-Zielinski Funeral Home will be open beginning at 3 p.m. today and until the time of the services on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mrs. Thomas Q. Bassett, 78, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wilfred Mattson, 820 Wilcox Street, Flint. She formerly resided at 229 E. Arch Street.<\/p>\n
She was born Oct. 23, 1882 at St. Ives, Cornwall, England. On coming to the United States she first settled in the Copper Country, and later she and her husband moved to a farm in Minnesota before coming to Ironwood. Mr. Bassett died July 2, 1955, and one son was killed May 27, 1945 in World War II.<\/p>\n
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Wilfred Mattson, Flint; Mrs. Forrest Dykeman, Milwaukee, Mrs. Lawrence Barrett, Flint, and Mrs. Wylie Wilcox, Silver Spring, Md.; two sons, Thomas Jr., Ironwood, and John Leslie, East Lansing; one sister, Mrs. Osborne, Canada; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.<\/p>\n
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the Wesley Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald C. Porteous officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery. The Chappell-Zielinski Funeral Home will be open Sunday afternoon and evening beginning at 2.<\/p>\n
