Bassett<br \/>\nBassett Services To Be Held Today<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Albert A. Bassett, 54, local justice of peace and transfer company owner, died yesterday around 12:45 p.m. at City-County Hospital. Mr. Bassett had been seriously ill for several weeks following a heart attack.<\/p>\n<p>He was elected Justice of Peace only last spring and became ill two months after assuming office.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral services will be held Thursday at the First Methodist church at 4 p.m. The Rev. John Tate will officiate, assisted by the Rev. John Wilson. Pallbearers will be Grady Fowler, Tom Rutland, P.T. Hipp, Jon Carley, Joe Thrash, and Harry Spikes.<\/p>\n<p>Burial will be at Shadowlawn with Groover and Barnette in charge.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bassett was a member of the First Methodist Church, Lodge 1804 B.P.O. Elks, and the Kiwanis club. Prior to his illness, he had a seven year perfect record of attendance at Kiwanis.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bassett started his transfer company 25 years ago with a one-horse wagon hauling freight in LaGrange, where he was born and reared. He had lived here all his life.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife Maude Jackson Bassett, LaGrange; one daughter, Mrs. John McCarthy, Pacific Grove, Calif., one son, Melton Bassett, LaGrange; his stepmother, Mrs. Mae Monroe Bassett, LaGrange; four sisters, Mrs. C.C. Smith, Mrs. James A. Knight, and Mrs. H.H. Mathews all of LaGrange, and Mrs. Charles L. Seacord, Bradenton, Fla.; three brothers, J.T. and Richard Bassett, LaGrange, and Marvin V.
