Bassett<br \/>\nResident For Many Years, Had Been Special Officer \u2013 Made Friends<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Athol, Jan. 23 \u2013 Elton M. Bassett, 70, who was injured internally 10 days ago when a truck on which he was riding pinned him against a wall, died early today at his home at Pinedale avenue. He had suffered intensely since the accident.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bassett had lived here many years, coming from near Millington. He had worked as a special officer and on the roads and was well known throughout Athol, where he made many friends. He was a native of Worcester and the son of Hiram and Mary Bassett. He leaves two sons, Harry and Ralph Bassett, both of Athol and a daughter, Mrs. Mary B. Twitchell of Hartford, Ct. He has a number of grandchildren. His wife died a few years ago. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Starrett Memorial church and burial will be in the Silver Lake cemetery. Rev. Bassett<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ATHOL \u2013 Ralph E. Bassett, 77, formerly of 310 Intervale Ave., who moved Dec. 22 to Dallas, Tex. to reside with a nephew, Howard Twichell, died Sunday in a Dallas Hospital where he was taken after he was stricken Jan. 3.<\/p>\n<p>His wife, Beatrice (Nevers) Bassett, died Oct. 17.<\/p>\n<p>He was born in Dana, and lived here most of his life. Before his retirement he had been a long time employee of A.K. Turner Co., truckers and long distance movers. He leaves a brother, Harry Bassett of Phillipston, five nephews and three niece.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Fiske Funeral Home with Rev. Harold D. Smock of Starrett Memorial Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery.
