DELAND – Leo Irwin Bassett, 83, of Chipola Avenue, who retired after 32 years as a commercial artist for Poster Art Displays, Inc., Jacksonville, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital-West Volusia, DeLand. Mr. Bassett, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Lake Helen, and came here in 1980 from Jacksonville. He was a member of the Florida Watercolor Society and the West Volusia Artist Association. Survivors include a stepson, Robert McKenney, Niceville; a sister, Sharon Purpura, Depew, N.Y.; and a niece, Ann Woodrum, DeLand, who provided for his care. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, West Volusia Chapter, 218-A East New York Avenue, DeLand 32724. Lankford, DeLand, ins in charge.<\/p>\n
