Wadsworth<br \/>\nBurnice Clark Bassett (b. 1886) and wife Mary Jeanette Hailman<br \/>\nRaymond Elmer Bassett (b. 1928)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bassettbranches.org\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Raymond.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2703\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bassettbranches.org\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Raymond.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><strong>Raymond Elmer Bassett<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Raymond Elmer Bassett was born June 5, 1928 in Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana to Burnice Clark and Mary Jeanette (Hailman) Bassett.\u00a0\u00a0He died November 7, 2021 in Osage Beach, Missouri.\u00a0\u00a0Family was present.<\/p>\n<p>Raymond graduated from Pittsfield High School, Pittsfield, Illinois, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy two weeks before his graduation.\u00a0\u00a0He served his country and was recruited into espionage during World War II.<\/p>\n<p>He attended\u00a0Indiana State in Terre\u00a0Haute, and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan with a degree in Music Education.\u00a0\u00a0He then went on to Garrett Theological Seminary, in Evanston, Illinois, graduating in 1964.\u00a0\u00a0He pastored for the Methodist Church in the Central Illinois Conference for 41 years.\u00a0\u00a0He also worked as a volunteer hospital Chaplain in Springfield, Peoria, and Kankakee (Illinois).\u00a0\u00a0Raymond was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He retired in September 1995, where he and his wife, Louise, moved to Sunrise Beach, Missouri.\u00a0\u00a0He was involved in the American Legion for 20 years as the Post Chaplin, 12 years as District Chaplin, and 12 years Department Chaplin of American Legion for Missouri. He was involved in the American Passion Play in Bloomington, Illinois for 47 years as the disciple John, Thomas, one of the Sanhedrin, and recently as a tenor in the play\u2019s choir. He continued serving others through hospice care.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife of 69 years, (Evelyn) Louise Wood Bassett; their children: Gwyneth (Terry) Nelson of Meade, Kansas, Michelle (Joe) Knaack of McHenry, Illinois, Nathan (Tonya) Bassett of Bloomington, Illinois, Melissa Whitaker of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Cameron (Kimberly) Bassett of Auburndale, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
