DIXON, Mo. (March 27, 2010) \u2014 As president of his community\u2019s fire board, Dixon real estate agency owner Arnold Bassett has seen many fires over the years, but late Thursday night, his own business suffered what is believed to be a total loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole office is destroyed; there\u2019s a lot of smoke damage to the main office and water damage to the back office and we\u2019ve just about lost everything,\u201d said Mindy Bassett, office manager and realtor at Bassett United Country Realty in Dixon.<\/p>\n
Employees at Bassett Realty are working out of their homes, she said, and calls to the main office telephone line are being forwarded to her cell phone.<\/p>\n
Arnold Bassett has been a fixture in the Dixon business community for nearly five decades since beginning an insurance agency in 1962 and moving into real estate in 1966. In addition to serving as president of the Dixon Rural Fire Protection District board of directors, he\u2019s been president of the Pulaski County Board of Realtors and has been a board member for the local water district, chamber of commerce and Lion\u2019s Club in Dixon,<\/p>\n
Mindy Bassett said the real estate agency will reopen and its location will remain in Dixon.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are trying to set up a temporary office just as soon as possible, but anytime they need to reach us they can still call the business line and I\u2019ll get the call,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
A damage estimate isn\u2019t available yet, Bassett said, but the office was insured. Bassett said she\u2019s been told by Dixon firefighters that the blaze broke out about 11 p.m. and was caused by electrical problems. Dixon firefighters received mutual aid assistance from Crocker firefighters; Dixon police and Dixon Ambulance District personnel also assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Arnold Clyde Bassett, of Dixon, was born on August 7, 1942, near Dixon, in Maries County, a son of Clyde Elmer and Neva Faye (Doyel) Bassett, and departed this life at 6:48 a.m., on Sunday, January 10, 2021, in Phelps Health, Rolla. Arnold had attained the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 3 days.<\/p>\n
He was united in marriage on May 23, 1964, at Dixon, to the former Miss Donna May Newberry, and to this union, three sons were born.<\/p>\n
Arnold accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and followed Him in baptism early in life. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Kenner Church of God, Dixon. Arnold was a member of more than fifty years and past officer of Arlington Lodge No. 346 A.F. and A.M.; a member and Past Patron of Garnet Chapter No. 283 Order of the Eastern Star; member and past president of the Dixon Lions Club, all in Dixon; board member and past president of the Pulaski County Sheltered Workshop; was a member of the Dixon Rural Fire Protection District for fifty-three years serving as president for twenty-three years of that time; and had served on the committee to construct the new Pulaski County Courthouse. He was owner and operator, along with his wife, Donna, of the Bassett Real Estate for fifty years and Bassett Insurance for thirty-two years, both in Dixon. Arnold especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with his family.<\/p>\n
Those left to mourn the passing of Arnold includer: His devoted and loving wife, of over fifty-six years, Donna; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan Arnold and Sharon Kay Bassett, Ballwin; Kent Edward and Melinda \u201cMindy\u201d Bassett, Dixon; and Brent Allen and Nichole Bassett, Dixon; eight grandchildren, Andrew Bassett, Joshua Jones, Jacob Jones, Makayla Jones, Clayton Bassett, Kyle Bassett, Ali Bassett, and Miranda Mclendon; seven great-grandchildren, Malachi, Audrelle, Olivia, Kaydence, Abel, Paisley, Greyson, and two more anticipated; siblings, Robert \u201cBob\u201d and Pat Bassett, Columbia; and Kenneth and Susan Bassett, St. Robert; and Marilyn and Marty Davis, Rolla; two sisters-in-law, Lela Bassett, Davey, Nebraska; and Marilyn Bassett, Vienna; and other relatives and friends<\/p>\n
He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde, on May 19, 1978; his mother, Faye, on June 14, 2002; and two brothers, Roy Luke Bassett, on September 23, 1994; and Willis Dean Bassett, August 21, 2018.<\/p>\n
Visitation for Arnold will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, on Friday, January 15, 2021, with the funeral service following at 12:00 noon, all in the Kenner Church of God, 17996 Maries Road 505, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with Pastor Beverly Sharp officiating.<\/p>\n
Inurnment will be in the Kenner Cemetery under the direction of Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers are his eight grandchildren: Andrew Bassett, Joshua Jones, Jacob Jones, Makayla Jones, Clayton Bassett, Kyle Bassett, Ali Bassett, and Miranda Mclendon.<\/p>\n
