\nMilitary Funeral For W.J. Bassett<\/p>\n
Military honors were accorded W.J. Bassett who died in St. Boniface hospital Friday and was buried in Brookside cemetery, Monday. Major the Rev. C.C. Carruthers officiated at the funeral ceremony.<\/p>\n
Born in Salford, Manchester, England, in 1893, Mr. Bassett came to Winnipeg in 1911 and took up residence in Stonewall. At the outbreak of the First Great War he went overseas with the 19th<\/sup> Battery, Canadian Field Artillery and served in France for four years.<\/p>\n On his return to Winnipeg, he took the job as club steward for the Arny and Navy Veterans, Winnipeg unit, which post he held till his death.<\/p>\n He is survived by his wife and two children, William Allan and Beryl Aileen, all living in Winnipeg.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The following William John Bassett has not yet been identified.
