\nDonah Bassett, 83, Phoenix, Ariz.<\/p>\n
Donah Bassett, a negative cutter in Holly-wood for more than four decades, died Tuesday, May 4 (2010) at a retirement community in Phoenix, Ariz. She was 83.<\/p>\n
Born in Shawnee, Okla., on April 23, 1927, to Carl and Gladys Polk, Donah June Polk moved to California with her family in 1928. She attended high school and college in Santa Monica, and enjoyed studying art. She took a job as a film technician at Technicolor Film Laboratory in 1954, commencing a 42-year career in the movie industry. After establishing Donah Bassett and Associates in 1976, she had the pleasure to work with some of the finest directors and cinematographers in Hollywood. She retired in 1996, and moved to Arizona two years later, studying oil painting at local workshops and the Scottsdale Art School. Her art has been shown in numerous exhibitions and galleries in California and Arizona.<\/p>\n
She worked on more than 200 films, including such classics as \u201cRaging Bull\u201d (1980), \u201cReds\u201d (1981), \u201cE.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial\u201d (1982), \u201cThe Natural\u201d (1984), \u201cAmadeus\u201d (1984), \u201cBlue Velvet\u201d (1986), \u201cWall Street\u201d (1987), \u201cEmpire of the Sun\u201d (1987), \u201cJFK\u201d (1991), \u201cA League of Their Own\u201d (1992) and \u201cLegends of the Fall\u201d (1994).<\/p>\n
Survivors include her brother, Charles Taft, Phoenix; children Chris Scudder, Harrison; Cathy Bassett Goldman, Phoenix; and Craig Bassett, Hollywood; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
