      ENID — The funeral for Mary Maxine Bassett, 91, of Cherokee, will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010, at First Christian Church, Cherokee. Ron Hansen and the Rev. Shorty Unruh will officiate. Burial will be in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee. Viewing will be 2-5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

      She was born April 2, 1919, in Cherokee to Pearl and Georgia Bowles Main and died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Golden Oaks.

      She married William Richard “Bill” Bassett Aug. 31, 1940. They were wheat farmers. She worked 25 years as a deputy in the Alfalfa County Clerk’s office. She also worked at Farmers Exchange Bank for five years.

      She was a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years and a member of First Christian Church, Cherokee, for more than 80 years. She taught Sunday school and was active in Christian Women’s Fellowship. After she moved to Golden Oaks, she attended Central Christian Church.

      Surviving are her children, LeAnn Wheat of Enid and Gary Bassett of Cherokee; two grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and one brother.

      Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Christian Church CWF, Cherokee, or Enid Central Christian Church Caregivers.
