    WINCHENDON - Raymond F. Bessette, 76, of Baldwinville Rd. died in Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital, Gardner, after an illness.
    He leaves three brothers, James Bessette of Gardner, Norman Bessette and Leo Bessette both of Fitchburg; four sisters, Evelyn Rounds of Sparks, Nevada, Janet Jenness of San Jose, Calif., Irene McGowen of Lynn and Esther Helie of Winchendon; nieces and nephews. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Louis and Elizabeth (Bushman) Bessette.
    He worked as as a paper maker at Crocker Burbank Co. until he joined the Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Service Star and five Overseas Bars.
    The funeral will be held tomorrow from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 9 p.m. today.

    GARDNER - James L. Bessette, 72, of 20 Baker St. died yesterday in Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital after an illness.
    He leaves his wife of 52 years, Jennie (Sokolowski) Bessette; two sons, James L. Bessette Jr. of Gardner and David Bessette of Lewiston, Maine; two brothers, Norman and Leo Bessette, both of Fitchburg; four sisters, Evelyn Rounds of Sparks, Nev., Janet Jenness of San Jose, Calif., Irene McGowen of Lynn and Esther Helie of Winchendon; two grandchildren. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Louis and Elizabeth (Bushman) Bessette, and lived there 20 years before moving to Gardner. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 7 stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars.
    Mr. Bessette was a metal fabricator at General Electric Co. in Fitchburg before he retired in 1986. He was a member St. Joseph's Church, VFW Ovila Case Post 905 and the G.E. Quarter-Century Club.
    The funeral will be held Saturday from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.     FITCHBURG - Leo E. Bessette Sr., 71, of 8 Maryanna Drive, a retired printer, died yesterday in his home, after a long illness.
    He leaves his wife of 48 years, Ruth C. (Brown) Bessette; a son, Leo Bessette Jr. of Fitchburg; two daughters, Donna Brand of Westmoreland, N.H., and Judy Keany of Braintree; three sisters, Irene McGowen of Lynn, Esther Helie of Winchendon and Janet Jenness of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Louis and Elizabeth (Bushman) Bessette, and lived here most of his life.
    He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater.
    Mr. Bessette was a printer at Rand-Whitney Corp. in Leominster for 28 years, retiring in 1982.
    He was a member of the Townsend Post VFW, the Eastwood Club and St. Camillus de Lellis Church.
    The funeral will be tomorrow in Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., with a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.

    GARDNER – David J. Bessette, 67 of Gardner, was called to the kingdom of God
    on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. David
    was born in Gardner on January 19, 1945, the son of the late James L. Bessette and Jennie (Sokolowski) Bessette of Gardner. He was raised and educated in Gardner and was a former Gardner High School Wildcat class of 1964. At G.H.S., he excelled in three sports: basketball, baseball and football. He was well known for his athleticism playing for the Gardner Panthers and Leominster Legion and he played football at Springfield College. After graduating from Springfield, David was an assistant coach at Leominster High School. He then took a job teaching and was head football coach at Murdock High School. David later began a career in the Insurance industry working his way up to managing the Gardner office of MetLife. David wanted to make a difference in Gardner and was involved in politics. He represented Ward 1 for a number of years and was a member of the city council. David then moved to Maine where he managed a number of offices. Dave’s love for the beach brought him to Melbourne, Florida several years ago and when he became ill, he returned to Gardner to receive long term care at Spring Valley Rehab in Worcester. In addition to his mother, David also leaves his brother, Jim Bessette and wife Linda of Fernandina Beach, Florida; a nephew, John Bessette and his family of Fitchburg, and a niece, Karen Valeri and family of Leominster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Gardner. A calling hour will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant Street, Gardner. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Spring Valley Rehab and Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

Leo was a salesman for F.W. Webb Co. for many years. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He is survived by his wife of 20 years Gail (Martinson) Bessette, his step-son Luke Alexander of Westford, MA., his daughter, Samantha Bessette of Townsend, MA., two sisters, Judy Keany and her husband Michael of Braintree, MA., and Donna Brand and her husband Steve of Westmoreland, N.H. He also leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins, nephews and nieces.
