Name William Henry Richard Bassett Born Abt 1835 Harris County, Georgia Gender Male _MILT 30 Oct 1861 Wesobulga (now Died 13 Nov 1901 Clay County, Alabama Notes - William Anderson Addison Steadham, son of John Rubin and Elizabeth (Vaughn) Stidham, was born 4 Oct 1815 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He died 17 Nov 1893 in Clay County, Alabama.
H.R. Bassett was a private in the 25th Alabama Infantry and was seriously wounded at the battle of Shiloh. H.R. Bassett appears on a muster roll of Company F, 25th Alabama which left Wesobulga (now Clay County) on 30 Oct 1861 and went into camps near Auburn, Alabama. They broke camp on 25 Dec 1861 and journeyed to Mobile, Alabama, where they joined the other troops and were actually organized into the 25th Alabama. According to newspaper accounts (Democratic Watchtower 23 Apr 1862) and State of Alabama pension records, H.R. was seriously wounded in the left hip on 6 Apr 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh. He also appears on the Company Muster Roll for the month of June 1862 and is listed as being on the "Surgeons Certificate of Disability" in Tupelo, MS. He applied for and received a soldiers pension from the State of Alabama from 17 Jul 1889 until his death on 13 Nov 1901. His wife Elizabeth applied for a widows pension on 7 Jun 1902.
