William F. Bassett Passes at Fairfax
HAMPTON, S.C., June 28 – William F. Bassett, 74 died early today at his home in Fairfax after an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Polly Brown Bassett, two sons, Morrison Bassett of Clinton, S.C., Herbert Bassett of Fairfax; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Edgar, of Fairfax, Mrs. Polly Garret of Wilmore, Ky.; three half-brothers and four half-sisters.

Mr. Herbert C. Bassett, 87, of Methodist Home, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1994. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Bellringer Chapel United Methodist Church, Allendale. Burial will be in Fairfax Cemetery. Mr. Bassett, a native of Allendale County, was a member of Bellringer Chapel United Methodist Church and Buford Masonic Lodge. Survivors include a sister, Polly Bassett Garrett, Lexington, Ky. Friends may call until 1:30 p.m. today at Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home.

Polly B. Garrett, 88, of Christian Towers in Lexington, formerly of Versailles, widow of James A. Garrett, died March 11, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. Born in Allendale County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Polly Brown Bassett. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lexington, and was a former member of Clear Creek Baptist Church in Woodford County. Survivors are two daughters, Betty Staton of Midway, and Ruth Walker of Jackson, Tenn.; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A son, Sam Garrett, whose widow, Sylvia Garrett, lives in Versailles, is deceased. Services were conducted March 14 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles. Interment in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County, Ky.
