Bassett Retired Troup Farmer, Dies 1947 Thomas Jefferson Bassett, 73, 304 Dallis street, a retired farmer and a member of the Abbottsford School board of trustees for 14 years, died last night at 7:45 at the City-County Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past two years. A native of Randolph county, Alabama, Mr. Bassett had made his name in LaGrange and Troup county most of his life. He was a member of the Hominy Methodist Church and was active in school and church work in and around the Abbottsford community for many years. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John A. Wilson, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. R.W. Greene, pastor of the Unity Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mae Monroe Bassett, of LaGrange; four daughters, Mrs. C.L. Seacord of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. C.C. Smith, Mrs. J.A. Knight and Mrs. H.H. Mathews, all of LaGrange, and M.V. Bassett of Abbottsford; three sisters, Mrs. Ben Garner, of LaGrange, Mrs. W.L. Underwood, of Shawmutt, Ala., and Mrs. R.C. Brady, of Columbus; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
