Antoinette M. Bassett
OCEAN CITY - Antoinette McTernan Bassett, 88, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Jego McTernan. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald McTernan of El Paso, Texas. Her husband, Floyd Francis Bassett Sr., died in 1988. They were married Sept. 19, 1932, in Asbury Park, N.J.
Mrs. Bassett had been an active businesswoman, working with her husband for many years. During the late 1940s and early 1950s, she and her husband operated the Boulevard Grill in Berling. They also owned and operated the Ideal Cottages and Bassett's Party Market in North Ocean City from 1940 to 1971. She was a member of St. Mary's By-The-Sea Catholic Church in Ocean City. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Ocean City Museum Society.
Survivors include three sons, Floyd F. Bassett Jr. and his wife, Louise "Buttons" Bassett, of Berlin, Ronald G. Bassett of Ocean City and Michael C. Bassett and his wife, Lynda Bassett, of Fairfax, Va. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Greg Bassett of Quantico, Jeff Bassett of Rehoboth Beach, David Bassett of Snow Hill, Lisa Bassett Fraze of Richardson, Texas, and Jennifer and Justin Bassett of Fairfax, Va.; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin. Donations may be made to the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company or the Ocean City Paramedics Foundation, 15th Street and Philadelphia Avenue, Ocean City, Md. 21842.
