A celebration of life service for Mrs. Virginia Cassity Bassett, 81, of Henderson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Henderson, with Rev. Mark Hill & Rev. Michael Cary officiating. Interment will follow at Millville Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bassett passed away February 3, 2016 at ETMC Henderson. She was born November 22, 1934 to Oscar Olar and Grace Sharp Cassity in Panola County, Texas and lived in Rusk County most of her life. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1953 and worked for GTE/Verizon for 36 years as a telephone operator and a clerk. She married Mack Ed Bassett on May 27, 1955 in the home of Dr. & Mrs. Ray O. Brooks and was a devoted wife for their 60 years of marriage. She loved her family and was affectionately called ?Ginner? by the Cassity family and ?Nana? by her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always involved in attending all their school activities & sporting events. She was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church where she served as past chairman of the Food Committee, a member of the Kitchen Committee & Lord?s Supper Committee. She was known for her delicious cooking & organizational skills.
Mrs. Bassett was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Olar & Grace Sharp Cassity and brother, Joe Cassity.
Survivors include: husband, Mack Bassett; daughter, Karen Medford and husband, Tommy; son, Keith Bassett and wife, Jill; sisters, Judy Watkins, Mary Mauritzen and Dian Pope; brother, John Cassity and wife, Danny Sue; sisters-in-law, Judy Cassity & Becky Propes; brother-in-law, Don Bassett; grandsons, Brian Jackson and wife, Tonya, Brent Jackson & wife, Chelsi; granddaughters, Kayla Bassett, Grace Medford & Faith Medford; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Remington, Cash, Tate and Ellie Kate; and special nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Watkins, Joel Watkins, Dwayne Pope, Gary Cassity, Brian Jackson & Brent Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Trinity Baptist Church, 1100 Kilgore Drive, Henderson, TX 75652 or Millville Cemetery c/o Matt Gabriel, 432 County Road 223 N, Henderson, TX 75652.
