Reford Kay Bassett
Jan. 21, 1938 – July 9, 2011
Reford Kay Bassett, age 73, of Chickasha was born the son of Roy Bassett and Amy Helen Johnson Bassett on January 21, 1938 in Anadarko, OK. He died at his home in Chickasha on July 9, 2011.
Reford grew up in Cougar, Oklahoma and graduated from Minco High School. After graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma then transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma where he received his bachelors degree. He worked for the railroad and General Motors before going into horse racing. He spent the last 28 years of his life in horse race management.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Amy Bassett; brother, Don Bassett; sister-in-law, Jean Bassett.
Survivors include: Wife: Vi Bassett of the home, Son and wife: Scott and Dawn Bassett of Chickasha, Granddaughter and husband: Amber and Mike Randall of El Reno, Granddaughter and husband: Kayla and Larry Collier of El Reno, Granddaughter: Emily Bassett of El Reno, Grandson: Matthew Bassett of El Reno, Grandson: Justin Bassett of Chickasha, Great Granddaughter: Leilani Collier of El Reno, Great Grandson: Aiden Randall of El Reno.
There will be no services. The family has requested no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Ministry at Epworth United Methodist Church. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.
