Earl H. Bassett
Earl H. Bassett, 79, of Milton, Florida, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2006 at his home. Earl was born on July 17, 1927 in Langdale, Alabama. He attended Valley High School in Fairfax, Alabama, and Perry Business College in LaGrange, Georgia, and has resided in Milton since 1962. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Mr. Bassett was an avid Sportsman. He lettered in all sports, both in Middle School and High School. He has been an avid golf player for 54 years, and loved playing golf with his sons. He was a charter member of the Tanglewood Golf Club. He retired from American Cyanamid/Cytec after 25 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Milton. He was an excellent father and husband and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Bassett is preceded in death by his mother and father, Henry and Maudie Bassett; one brother and sister in law, Howard and Nell Bassett; one brother in law, Herman Newman. Mr. Bassett is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Bassett; two sons and daughter in law, Chuck and Beverly Bassett and Randy and Debbie Bassett; one granddaughter, Lindsay Bassett; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Bassett will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the Lewis Funeral Home in Milton with Dr. David Spencer and Dr. Bell Tremble officiating. Burial will follow in the Milton Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Lewis Funeral Home, in Milton.
Active Pallbearers will be Jimmy Mezick, Darrell Mezick, Gary Welch, Don Prather, Charles Hamel, and Cary Newman. Honorary Pallbearers will be men of the Men's Adult II Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Milton. The family wished to thank Emerald Coast Hospice, especially Patty and Betty. Lewis Funeral Home of Milton is in charge of arrangements.
