- Obituary for Mary Lavina Bessette
Services for Mary Bessette, 68, of Rapid City will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, February 5, 1992 at the First Baptist Church at Rapid City, with the Rev. Truman Sproles officiating.
She died at the Rapid City Care Center of Rapid City on February 2, 1992. She had been in the R.C. Hospital where doctors discovered a cerebral tumor of the brain. Arrangements were made by Behrens Mortuary and burial was at the Scenic Cemetery.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1923 at Weta to William and Georgia (Vaughan) King. She graduated from garde school at Imlay, South Dakota, then went on to high school at Rapid City, South Dakota, until the year of 1941-42.
She was married to Lewis William Barney on May 8, 1942. She married Ernest Bessette on May 22, 1947 at Rapid City and lived on the family ranch north of Scenic.
She lived at Weta, Imlay, Wall and Kadoka before moving to Rapid City in 1976. While she was living in Wall, she worked as a cook at Wall Drug, and worked for Mr. Barber's Motel in Kadoka as a cleaning lady.
She was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the MOC and the First Baptist Church.
