- Obituary for Walter Timothy Bessette
Services for Walter T. Bessette were held June 21, 1991 at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City with the Rev. Wilbur Bullock officiating.
Bessette died at age 70 of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident on his ranch. Injuries caused cerebral homorrhage from a fractured skull on June 17, 1991. He was thrown from the ranch 4-wheeler while herding cattle and was discovered lying in front of the ATV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body was cremated and the remains will be inured at Scenic Cemetery.
He was born October 27, 1920 at home near Scenic to James and Victoria (Kimball) Bessette. He attended rural schools, graduated from Scenic High School and attended college at Chillicothe, Mo.
On Nov. 15, 1940, he enlisted in the Army's 109th Engineers. He received the Purple Heart and was discharged in 1945.
On July 1, 1947, he married Vila Dahl at Rapid City. They lived on a dairy ranch near Scenic.
