James A. Bass
Platteville, Wis. - James A. Bass, 66, of Platteville, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville, with the Reverend Kevin Dooley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Mergen-Boll Funeral Home, Platteville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Bass was a route salesman for the Gardener and Sunbeam Baking Companies, retiring in 1990.
He was born on December 25, 1930, in Potosi Township, Grant County, son of Thomas L. and Nellie M. (Cooley) Bass. He married Mabel Runde on August 5, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. They lived in Platteville all their married life.
He attended area grade schools and graduated from Livingston High School. He served in the Naval Reserve and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Monsignor DeRocher Knights of Columbus Council 1836. Jim enjoyed fishing, woodworking, fixing things in his work shop and his family very much.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel, of Platteville; two sons, James (Michelle) Bass, of Mount Horeb, and Michael Bass, of Eau Claire; seven daughters, Diane Bass, of Platteville, Judy (Thomas) Heffron, of Beaver Dam, Susan (Brad) Krantz, of Dane, Joan (Mike Talledge) Ghayyad, of Marshfield, Nina (Ken) Berkani-Rineer, of Madison, Mary (Cam White) Randall, of Platteville, and Lori (John Edgar) Bass-Edgar, of Madison; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Ila (Clarence) Adams, of Lancaster, and Betty (Luren) Harwood, of Loves Park, Illinois; and two brothers, Clinton (Norma) Bass, of Beloit, and Tom (Mary) Bass, of Fennimore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ann; a granddaughter, Jasmine; and two brothers, Robert and Ivan.
A James A. Bass Memorial Fund has been established.
