Stretton Motor Fatality
Mr. G. B. Bassett, of Ashover, Killed
The death took place in Chesterfield Royal Hospital, yesterday, of Mr. George Benjamin Bassett, Hardwick Farm, Ashover, from injuries received while motor-cycling. Mr. Bassett was riding between Clay Cross and Stretton, on Friday last, and as he turned out of easter Lane into the main road, a motor-car, owned by Dr. Marriott Tibshelf, came by and crashed broadside into the motorcycle. The motor cyclist and his machine fell under the car, and were dragged some distance. Mr. Bassett was terribly injured, his scalp being cut open and one leg fractured in several places.
The late Mr. G.B. Bassett was the younger son of Mr. John Bassett of Ashover, and principal of the Don Confectionery Company, Sheffield. He was 21 years of age, a promising young man and the news of his sad death will be received with the deepest regret by the many friends of the family in Sheffield and Derbyshire.
The interment will take place at Ashover on Saturday afternoon at half-past three.
