Also survived by his brother Ward Bassett.
Jim was born on April 28, 1912 in Greenleaf, Kansas to Albert J. Bassett and Ludie Mahalia Williamson who preceded him in death along with his stepmother Sara M. Bassett.
Jim loved Dover and he dedicated his life to the community his family helped create in 1855. He settled with his loving wife on a farm they affectionately called "Oleo Acres: One of the Cheaper Spreads". In addition to raising three children, cattle and crops; Jim worked at Dahlstrom Construction for twenty years. He also owned and operated Town and Country Pest Control from 1970 to 1985.
An active volunteer in the Dover community, Jim served on the boards of the Dover School District and the Dover Federated Church. He was a 65 year member of the Dover Masonic Lodge and could be frequently spotted at community celebrations astride his mount, "Duke", with the Topeka Shriners Mounted Patrol.
His deep and abiding commitment to family and the next generation inspired Jim to serve as the Dover 4-H Club leader for fifteen years. The club was one hundred members strong when Jim mentored county and state champions as the 4-H Demonstration Coach. Coaching Dover 4-H Softball Teams helped fill his love of sports. Before graduating from Dover High School and attending Kansas University, Jim loved to play baseball, basketball, football, and tennis.
