Winton A. Bassett, 80, Purple Heart Recipient
Pittsfield - Winton A. Bassett, 80, of 3332 McMath Drive, Palm Harbor, Florida, formerly of Pittsfield, died May 11 at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Born in Pittsfield on October 21, 1923, son of Alfred and Minnie Dittman Bassett, he was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also graduated from the GE apprentice program in 1951 and the GE manufacturing training program in 1957. He had resided in Lenox until moving to Florida in 1983.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Bassett was employed by GE for 42 years, retiring as manager of the bushings department. He was a member of George Young Memorial United Methodist Church and the High 12 Club of Highland Lakes, both in Palm Harbor, and the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Bodies in Pittsfield.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, the former Patricia LeBarron; five daughters, Ellen Bassett of Granite Bay, California; Janice Sullivan of Centerville, Lynn Powers of Pittsfield, Beth Zamore of Chesterfield, New Hampshire, and Tracy Brooks of Lee; 14 grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
