Aime O. Bessette, retired machinist
CHICOPEE – Aime O. Bessette, 80, of 18 John St., a retired 20-year machinist for the former Crompton-Knowles Co., Holyoke, died Sunday in Holyoke Hospital.
He retired in 1969. Born in Canada, he lived in Holyoke for 30 years and in Chicopee for 15 years. He previously worked for the former Skinner Mills in Holyoke.
He was a violinist for the Civic Orchestra at Holyoke Community College for many years. A communicant of the Nativity Church, he was a member of its Sacred Heart League, and the Willimansett Golden Age Club.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, the former Annette Turcotte; two sons, Raymond of Richfield, Conn., and Gerald of Mannheim, West Germany; three daughters, Constance Broughear of Granby, Jacqueline St. Cyr of Chicopee and Muriel Hovaniec of Rochester, Minn., four brothers, George, Henri, Oscar and Rene, all of Canada; three sisters, Laura Girouard, Rev. Sister Yvonne Bessette and Rev. Sister Eva Bessette, both, Sisters of the Assumption, all in Canada; 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday morning at Robert Funeral Home and in the church, with burial in St. Rose Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Leukemia Society, or the Shriners’ Hospital, both in Springfield.
