Reverend Lester Ronald Bass
Hartsfield - Reverend Lester Ronald Bass, 73, of Hartsfield, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at his home.Funeral services, with military honors, will be 4 p.m., Sunday, December 4, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Wayne Goff officiating, assisted by the Reverend Terry Webb. Casketbearers will be Wendell Herndon, Bennie Bullard, Bright Hays, J.I. Hatcher, Russell Yates and Billy Willis.Born March 20, 1938, in Pelham, he was the son of the late Wiley Cecil Bass and Nona Marjorie Sasser Bass. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, with four years of service, and graduated from Southwestern State University, in Americus, with a bachelor's degree in middle school education. He was a retired teacher with the Pelham City School System, was a retired farmer in the Rose Hill Community, and was a retired pastor of the Baptist faith. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was an inactive deacon and a substitute teacher.Survivors include his wife, Jalayne Norman Bass of Hartsfield; two sons, Craig Bass of Tallahassee, Florida, and Scotty Bass of Hartsfield; one sister, Ann Hays and husband Bright of Pelham; two brothers, Robert C. Bass and wife Debbie of Sale City and Jerry C. Bass and wife Sandy of Harahan, Louisiana; his twin brother, George D. Bass of Pelham; seven nieces, Kiley Hays, Kimberly Hays, Robbin Folsom, Patty Tennyson, Dondra Bass, Natasha Newton and Patricia Newton; two nephews, David Bass and E.J. Newton; and several other family members.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, December 3, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.Arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb Funeral Chapel.Please leave condolences to the family at www.moultrieobserver.com.
