Emma Bassett Butz
TRUMBULL, CT Emma Bassett Butz, age 83, of Trumbull, CT, wife of the late George C. Butz, a retired employee of the State of Connecticut Unemployment Compensation Division, died on Friday, February 27, 2004 at Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport, CT surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Butz was born on June 23, 1920, daughter of the late Walter E. and Emma Bouteiller Bassett. She was an avid letter writer to servicemen and women through Troop Fan Mail for the past 20 years. She was named #1 in the nation for the individual sending the most letters for the past eight years. She sent out 5175 cards and letters in this year before she became ill. She was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church.
Survivors include five sons and a daughter, George W. Butz and his wife, Helen of Charlton, MA, Jerry T. Butz and his wife Carol of Bridgeport, CT, David C. Butz and his wife, Cheryl of Ansonia, CT, Ronald P. Butz and his wife, Martha of Trumbull, Judy A. Bierwirth and her husband, Donald of West Haven, CT and John R. Butz and his wife, Robin of Stratford, CT her longtime companion, Howard Arbo, a half brother, David and three half sisters, Pat, Cindy and Joan as well as 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Walter T. Bassett.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in Nichols United Methodist Church, 35 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611.
The Butz Family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Bridgeport Hospital for the excellent care and compassion given to Mrs. Butz in her final days, especially in the MICU.
