James I. Bassett
James I. Bassett, a berry grower living in the Valley neighborhood, four miles south of Chehalis, died Wednesday evening after an illness extending over the past six months. Mr. Bassett, was about 56 years of age. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Catherine Bassett; four sons, Herbert, James, Stewart and Homer; two daughters, Mrs. Ed Bahr and Miss Esther Bassett; his mother, Mrs. Byron Bassett of Orting; a sister, Mrs. Ray Canterbury of Seattle, and three brothers, Frank of Onalaska, Roy of Raymond and George of British Columbia. The death of Mr. Bassett’s father, the late Byron Bassett, occurred but recently. For 16 years Mr. Bassett was employed at McCormick at mill work. During more recent years he had been engaged in the berry growing business at the home south of Chehalis. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Sticklin chapel in this city, Reverend S.S. Healy officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Bassett was a member of the Masonic fraternity and the lodge will be in charge of the funeral arrangements.

LEWIS COUNTY PIONEER DEAD

CHEHALIS, June 15. - James Bassett, 56, a resident of Lewis county since 1889, died Wednesday at his home, four miles south of Chehalis. The death of Mr. Bassett's father, Byron Bassett, occurred just recently. Mr. Bassett has been employed in the lumber mill at McCormick, but during more recent years had been engaged in the berry business. Besides his wife he is survived by four sons, Herbert, James, Stewart, and Homer; two daughers, Esther and Mrs. Ed Bahr; his mother, Mrs. Byron Bassett of Orting, a sister, Mrs. Ray Canterbury of Seattle, and three brothers, Frank of Onalaska, Roy of Raymond and George of British Columbia. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, interment in the Greenwood cemetery. The burial will be in charge of the Masonic lodge, of which Mr. Bassett was a member.
