Louis Bassett, Pioneer Farm Educator, Dies
Louis B. Bassett, for many years superintendent of experimental farm operations of the University of Minnesota and associate professor of farm management, died Saturday in his home at 2095 Dudley ave. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Bassett was a pioneer in the growth of the University?s agricultural education program. He retired six years ago after 30 years? service.
A graduate of the school of agriculture, Mr. Bassett attended the college of agricultural until 1898 when he enlisted in the Army during the Spanish-American war. At the time of his death he was president of the 13th Minnesota Volunteers veterans organization.
He returned to the University Farm in 1905 and served as farm foreman until 1909. After spending two years on a 10,000 acre farm in North Dakota, he returned to the campus.
Surviving are his wife, Zoe Wells and three children, Marjorie, Muriel and Gordon.
Funeral arrangements have not be completed.
