HERMON - Jeanne Gloria (Marot) Dunphy was swept into heaven by God's promise of eternal life Feb. 17, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 26, 1945, in Providence, R.I., the only child of George and Anne (Bessette) Marot. She grew up in Brockton, Mass., and was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School, class of 1963. She was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph as an operator, and Sears, Roebuck and Co. as a sales associate when she met her lifetime love and devoted husband, Michael Dunphy, whom she married Oct. 17, 1965. Throughout the years of her life with Mike, they raised three children, and Jeanne was enthusiastically proud of their many endeavors. She was involved as a Girl Scout troop leader, with Parent-Teachers, and as a volunteer for many clubs, teams and organizations, including the Philips-Strickland House, Bangor, the home of her mother-in-law, and where her dear departed mother spent many happy days. A devoted mother and grandmother, Jeanne could often be found at home, whirling through her kitchen cooking treats for her beloved grandchildren, holding a child with one arm on her hip while working a cookie tray in the other hand. An accomplished seamstress and a passionate cook, Jeanne ran her own catering business for many years and loved delighting her family and many close friends with her cooking and sewing projects. She dearly loved traveling with Mike on business trips and vacations, and lived a dream of taking all of her grandchildren to Disney World as well as many other memorable excursions she organized that the family will always remember fondly. She was predeceased by her parents; father-in-law, Tom Dunphy; and brothers-in-law John Dunphy and Paul Vella. Surviving, in addition to her devoted husband of 47 years, are her mother-in-law, Lillian Dunphy of Bangor; sister-in-law, Joanne Vella of East Bridgewater, Mass.; daughter, Michelle and husband, Matt Dunlap, and their daughter, Emily Dunlap of Old Town; daughter, Colleen Bridges of Orono and her children, Alex Bridges and Kelsey Bridges, of Hermon; and son, Christopher Dunphy and his children, Peter Dunphy and Ashley Dunphy of Hermon. In addition, she is survived by many special cousins, including those she always kept close to her, Lorraine Farley, Pat Monse, Claire Horrocks and Bob Marot; and her beloved cat, Oliver, which her gave her much comfort. The family thanks special friends, Peter and Susan Daigle, Steve and Brooke Ismail, Betsy and Joe Hornyak, Garry and Debbie Gilpatrick; her outstanding and gracious physician, Dr. William Wood; and the caring staff at St. Joseph Hospital for their devoted and unwavering support throughout Jeanne's final journey. A celebration of Jeanne's life for family and friends will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 20, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday Feb. 21, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden. Private interment in the springtime will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
