Daniel Bassett was born in Harwinton, Litchfield County, Conn., Feb. 16, 1823. He was eldest son of Leverett Ives Bassett, who was the 6th lineal descendant of William Bassett who, with his brother John, emigrated from England to Boston, Mass. in 1639. John settled in Mass. and William near New Haven, Conn. Leverette I. Bassett was an extensive farmer, and his son Daniel inherited his dispostion to engage largely in agricultural pursuits. In the summer of 1852 he married Amy E. Barker of Plymouth, Conn. and the following autumn settled in Peoria County, Ill. where he remained until the spring of 1865, when he moved to Groveland Twp., LaSalle County. He was 560 acres of land in one tract which is one of the best farms in the county. In 1875 he built his barn, a substantial structure, 54 x 60 feet in size, and in 1883 erected his residence, which cost $5,000 and is one of the best arranged and most complete in every detail in the county. He has a village of buildings on his farm, and is surrounded by trees anda grove of his own planting. He had 3 children - Annis E., Owen B., and Ella A.
