Oren W. Bassett
BASSETT - Oren W., 84, Richland Township, went to be with the Lord Oct. 23, 2007. Born April 8, 1923, in Johnstown, son of Arthur and Gertie (Keiper) Bassett. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and Carl; sisters, Ruth, May, Bertha and Verna; great-grandson, Derrick Imler; and son-in-law, Daniel Alexander. Oren is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Eileen M. O'Connor; children: Robert, married to the former Shirley Grove, Johnstown; and Linda, wife of Michael Cominsky, Johnstown; grandchildren: Scott, married to Lisa Petney; Todd, married to Stephanie Woods; Brett; and Buffy, wife of Ryan Imler; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Brooke, Megan and Madison Bassett and Nathan, Lauren and Sydney Imler. A member of Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, where he served as an usher, worked in the food pantry and enjoyed cutting the grass. Was an organizer and past vice president of the Highland Boosters Baseball Pony League. Former member of the Highland Boosters bowling league. Oren was great at helping others and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, Pastor Gary Tustin officiating. Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, Pa. 15963. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
