LONGMEADOW - Mary Jane (Bassett) Currier, 75, of Longmeadow, Mass., died June 28, 2004, in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield. Born in Worcester, Mass., on July 20, 1928, she was the beloved daughter of Walter G. and Margaret (Laverty) Bassett. A brother, Kirk W. Bassett, predeceased her. A graduate of Classical High School in Worcester and Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., she was a buyer for Filene's Department Store in Worcester until her 1957 marriage to William S. Currier, the former director of the Western Massachusetts Governor's Office under former Governor Michael S. Dukakis. Mary Jane and Bill lived together in Longmeadow until Bill passed away in 1992. For the past seven years, Mary Jane had been a resident of Glenmeadow Retirement Community in Longmeadow. She leaves her two daughters and their husbands and children: Katerhine Currier Small and Parker Adams Small III and their daughters Margaret and Elizabeth Small of Wellesly, Mass., and Elizabeth Currier Beacom and Matthew Beacom and their children Katherine, Hannah and William Beacom of North Haven, Conn. She was a longtime member of the Sprinfield WOmen's Symphony League, of which she was a past president; the College Club of Springfield; Current Events Club of Longmeadow; and Longmeadow Country Club. She was a communicant at St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow, where she had been a member of the guild. For several years, she was the social reporter for the Longmeadow News. Family and Friends will gather on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 8:30 a.m. at the Hafey Funeral Home, 120 Shaker Rd., East Longmeadow for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery.
